Nation: Kingdom of Alar

On the South-Western region of Aesor, the Kingdom of Alar of the Alarians govern over the vast green fields known as the Plains of Alar; an abundant fertile continent. Underpinning this kingdom's prosperity is its pivotal role within the Nortrade League, a global commercial network that serves all members that contribute to its success.

Government & Capital

Within the Kingdom of Alar, the Alarian populace is governed by the Revered Orders of Alar, a unique system of governance that reflects their commitment to collaboration and direct involvement. The Hall of the Five Shepherds stands as the heart of this structure, where delegates from each of the Five Revered Orders (excluding the Chaplet Ring on purpose) congregate to oversee the “democratic” process.

The Revered Orders of Alar

  • The Windbreak Pact: Comprising regular soldiers, knights of the pact, and peacekeepers, this Order safeguards the realm from both internal and external threats.
  • The House of the Lord Vendors: Merchants and traders find their home here, contributing to the economic prowess of Alar.
  • The Brotherhood: This Order of priests of law, moral inquisitors and judge saints guides the spiritual path of the Alarians, ensuring their connection to the law they hold divine.
  • The Public Ministry: Peasants, craftsmen, and workers make up this Order, advocating for the rights and well-being of the common people.
  • The Guild of the Scepter Vault: This Order of bankers handles Alar's financial affairs, securing the prosperity of the kingdom.
  • The Chaplet Ring: Royalty, sworn knights, servants of the throne find their place here, giving their service to no other but the royal family, the nobility and their common goals.
The governance of the Alarian kingdom is characterized by a keen focus on trade, investment, and open-mindedness. The Kingdom of Alar is a melting pot of races, drawn by the promise of opportunity. This welcoming approach extends to their relations with other factions, prioritizing diplomatic engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships.   At the helm of the Kingdom of Alar stands Queen Eina I, the Broken. Though she strives to serve her people, her rule is marked by paranoia and a wavering mental state. Following the mysterious demise of the Three Kings and the subsequent withdrawal of her own Order, the Chaplet Ring, Queen Eina finds herself struggling to provide effective leadership.   The bustling city of Trigate is the pinnacle of Alarian civilization. Serving as a nexus of trade and diplomacy, Trigate is a global metropolis where embassies of various factions converge. This vibrant city exemplifies a harmonious blend of diverse cultures, unified by a shared commitment to progress.

Society

At the age of 16, every citizen must pledge allegiance to one out of the Six Revered Orders, a commitment that lasts a lifetime. This division defines their roles within Alarian territory, fostering specialization and fostering a structured society. It is essential to note that while Alarians are free to venture beyond their borders, their responsibilities within their chosen Order remain constant. This framework sustains a society that thrives on cooperation, unity, and the pursuit of common goals.   The societal landscape is marked by a profound divide that revolves around the adherence to the teachings of the Book of Moralities, the sacred text of the Brotherhood. This schism in belief resonates throughout the Alarian populace, shaping their interactions and attitudes towards the law and society as a whole.   Alarian society can be broadly categorized into two camps: those who hold unwavering faith in the precepts of the Book of Moralities, and those who secretly question or reject its teachings. This ideological schism is a cornerstone of Alarian identity and often fuels debates, discussions, and sometimes conflicts within the kingdom.   For adherents of the Brotherhood, the Book of Moralities is not just a spiritual guide, but a comprehensive code of conduct governing every facet of life. These individuals find solace and purpose in these teachings, often seeing them as the ultimate expression of virtue.   However, the strict and all-encompassing nature of the Brotherhood's laws also stirs a spirit of independence among those who challenge its doctrines. This struggle between belief and freedom has been known to breed an undercurrent of minor crimes, corruption, and a disregard for certain laws among the populace. The perceived imposition of the Brotherhood's laws, coupled with a longing for personal liberties, leads some Alarians to rebel against the prevailing norms.   The societal rift between these two belief systems generates a complex atmosphere within Alarian culture. While it fosters diversity of thought and encourages debates on moral and ethical matters, it can also lead to tensions and disagreements. The clash between strict adherence and personal autonomy often mirrors the broader struggles for power and influence within the kingdom.

Nortrade League

The Nortrade League is a world-wide guild and established international trade and commerce system, renowned for its ability to facilitate transactions devoid of political entanglements. Anchored in the heart of the Kingdom of Alar, this global trading company has redefined the landscape of business interactions among member nations.   At the core of the Nortrade League's operations lies the Kingdom of Alar, serving as the epicenter of its vast network. This league offers a unique proposition to nations seeking to engage in cross-border trade: exclusive trading rights and conditions that transcend the conventional constraints of international commerce.   The hallmark of the Nortrade League is its meticulously designed system, which acts as a buffer between member nations. Instead of engaging in direct trade with one another, member states exclusively deal with the Kingdom of Alar. This middle-man approach ensures that business transactions remain untouched by political interests, personal vendettas, or covert agendas.   The Nortrade League is a beacon of pragmatism in the world of commerce. Here's how it works: Suppose Nation X holds reservations or harbors animosity toward Nation Y, despite their reliance on the materials produced by Nation Y. In such a scenario, the Nortrade League steps in to mediate. Nation X simply places an order with the Alarians, who then liaise with Nation Y to fulfill the order for an anonymous buyer. This ingenious system effectively circumvents political tensions and personal biases, ensuring that essential materials continue to flow uninterrupted.   Founded and nurtured by the Revered Orders of Alar, the Nortrade League stands is a true harmonious intersection of commerce and diplomacy. The House of the Lord Vendors meticulously manages and organizes the league, ensuring its continued success and reputation as a haven for impartial trade. In a world often marred by political intrigue and conflicting interests, the Nortrade League stands as a pillar of economic cooperation. Here, nations come together not in alliance or friendship, but in pursuit of mutually beneficial transactions, unburdened by the shadows of politics.

History

Around the Year 168 of the First Age during the Dawn of Creation, the Alarians emerged as the third race to grace the world of Aesor. Like their fellow races, they are believed to have been created by the hands of the Óhin, but unique in their origin, they were crafted from the genes of the Ephyrans.   The Kingdom of Alar was formally established within the city of Trigate by King Alaur I, revered as the Founding Father. It is said that Alaur received guidance directly from the Óhin, enabling him to swiftly claim the Plains of Alar for his dominion. However, this story has been debated, with some scholars proposing the possibility of support from either Arkey or Ephyran benefactors in his rise to power.   After a century of wise rule by the Founding Father, the Alarian monarchy witnessed periods of turmoil, corruption, and weak governance. Amid this chaos, a new power entity emerged: the Revered Orders. This marked the beginning of an intricate and often deadly struggle for authority between the monarchy and the Orders, involving political intrigue, conspiracies, and even assassinations.   Over time, the conflict between the Chaplet Ring's royalty (representing the monarch) and the rest of the Revered Orders became ingrained in Alarian society. This internal strife became the enduring norm for the kingdom.   The Alarian kingdom was embroiled in two major wars against other Aesorian nations:
War of the Dead Cay (Year 186 - 489): Fought over Morgus Cay, it sparked accusations and counter-accusations between the Kingdom of Alar and the Clans of Vahalzaar.
Struggle for the Sea (Year 203 - 489): Regional disagreements snowballed into a global catastrophe known as the Struggle for the Sea. Factions relentlessly pursued their agendas, sowing seeds of doubt and corroding trust across the realms. The Struggle for the Sea morphed every local conflict into a grand theater of global warfare, wreaking havoc upon both sea and land.   Despite the inked peace treaties, the Alarians' path was still fraught with turmoil. The ensuing centuries bore witness to unending internal upheaval. The Summer Uprising, the Red Line Coup, and the colossal Revolution of the Five Shepherds stand as grim chapters in Alar's history, each leaving their mark in bloodshed, loss of life, and economic decline.   Today, the throne is occupied by Queen Eina I, the Broken. Her efforts to navigate the intricate web of allegiances and rivalries between the Chaplet Ring and the Revered Orders mark a pivotal point in Alarian history. Her young son, Rhain Meirion, has grown up amidst a backdrop of conflicts, bloodshed, and political machinations, further cementing the challenging environment that shapes the lives of the Alarians.
