Nation: Lethassan Commonwealth
Government & Capital
The Lethassan Commonwealth, a nation born of the fathomless depths of the Lethassa (aka the Four Isles Sea), inhabit the underwater expanse of Aesor under the leadership of the Vizier. Their society operates as a tightly woven web, with religious reverence and marcritic power shaping their daily lives. Bound by devotion to the Lightless God while acknowledging Kalzamaath, the Nepheli follow the guiding fear and lightlessness of their divine leader. At the heart of Commonwealth’s governance stands the Vizier, an embodiment of divine leadership in a monarchical communist-like system. Vizier Lianaga, a female Nepheli renowned for her quiet yet considerate demeanor, holds this exalted position. Revered as the prophet of the Lightless God, the Vizier harnesses immense marcritic power, especially in controlling the ocean's monstrous denizens. The Lethassan capital, the awe-inspiring Ornac, defies expectation. The colossal sea monster Ornac roams the depths, serving as both domicile for the Vizier and a vessel for spreading the Lightless God's message. Accompanied by an entourage of mind-controlled sea beasts, the Ornac safeguards the Vizier and its realm. As it glides loud and proud through the sea, the Ornac's imposing presence captures the attention of all who encounter it.Society
The Lethassan class structure derives its basis from proximity to light. Occupying towering cities built upon the seabed, their social hierarchy arranges itself in layers, with higher ranks closer to the surface light. Those in lower echelons toil on the seabed, maintaining colossal columns supporting their lofty cities. This arduous life in the abyss results in individuals with pitch-black skin, capable of seeing in the dark. Extended exposure to these depths fosters body deformations, transforming Nepheli into forms akin to aquatic monstrosities. Commanders of the Four Isles Sea, the Lethassan Commonwealth reigns over its beasts. From monstrous sharks to mythical krakens, their dominion over these creatures is bolstered by marcritic blessings from the Vizier. Nepheli's lives intertwine with these aquatic behemoths—they ride their backs, forging a symbiotic relationship. Sea beasts act as enforcers, maintaining law and patrolling waters, while smaller companions assist in daily tasks. An intrinsic harmony with the Lethassa's denizens forms the cornerstone of Nepheli existence. Lethassan justice diverges from conventional norms, instead of prisons or executions, criminals are sentenced to an abyssal habitat. Condemned to toil on the seabed until they either redeem themselves through relentless effort or endure the sentence for life, the Nepheli advocate for reformation through labor.History
Around the year 187 of the First Age during the Dawn of Creation, the Nepheli emerged as the fifth to grace the world of Aesor. Their origins, like those of the other races, are veiled in mystery, leaving scholars and historians to speculate about the specifics of their creation. What is clear is that the Nepheli represent a unique fusion of sea life and genetic influences from both Ephyrans and Alarians, embodying a blend of emotions, skills, and determination. Despite their presence, the Nepheli lived in isolated communities for 20 years without a unifying force to coalesce into a proper nation. However, the onset of the Struggle for the Sea (Year 203 – 489) heralded a new era for the Nepheli, as numerous communities joined forces to form the Sulth Alliance. The Sulth were characterized by a fervent, zealous religion known as the Abyssal Call, a primitive and barbaric iteration of the religion later recognized as the Lightless God. Central to the Abyssal Call was the notion that fear constituted the heart of everything, a stark acknowledgment of the terror-inducing depths of the Lethassa, the lurking sea monsters, and the uncharted darkness beneath the waves. Cultists of the Sulth drew strength from the fear they held dear. At this juncture, the leadership of this new Nepheli alliance was vested in the Sea King, chosen by the Alliance, and the Vizier, selected through the Abyssal Call's rituals. As the Sulth gained prominence, the allure of their defiance against a formidable enemy - the rest of Aesor - drew many Nepheli into their fold. These new adherents sought refuge within the Sulth Alliance, fearing something far greater than the adversarial world outside - the Abyssal Call itself. With each victory achieved by the warriors of the Sulth during the Struggle for the Sea, their ranks swelled, as did the number of believers in their faith. As centuries passed, generations grew up steeped in the teachings of the Sulth. This generational shift gradually transformed the traditions and rituals of the Abyssal Call into the more civilized, profound, and emotionally nuanced religion of the Lightless God. The Rage of Fates (Year 802 - 1201 of the First Age A.A.), cast a shadow of hostility across the Four Isles Sea. The relentless and multiplying sea beasts, coupled with escalating tensions between those who upheld the Sulth Alliance's authority and those who did not, threatened to plunge Lethassa into internal conflict. The pivotal moment came when Vizier Zokora's attempt to tame the fearsome monster known as the Ornac in the Graveneeish Depths ended in failure, resulting in the destruction of Nuusa, the capital of the Sulth Alliance, along with all its inhabitants, including the Sea King and Vizier Zokora herself. The cataclysmic event spelled the end of the Sulth Alliance and ushered in an era of chaos. In the aftermath, the few surviving authorities of the Sulth Alliance named Thars, a wise and renowned Ancestor Nepheli, as the next Vizier. However, the Alliance crumbled before anointing a new Sea King, as no worthy candidate emerged. Vizier Thars, faced with the colossal task of reconciling the crumbling alliance, pacifying the burgeoning sea beasts, and quelling conflicts among the Nepheli all by himself. According to legends, Thars mysteriously disappeared for three days, undertaking a so far unheard pilgrimage to the Lightless God itself to "call for thy aid to save their children, the children of the sea." Returning with newfound power, Thars utilized the Feared Secret, a mysterious ability, to tame the Ornac and pacify the sea's ferocious creatures single-handedly. To this day, scholars and academics remain baffled by the source and nature of Thars' incredible Marcry power. Skepticism surrounds the existence of the Lightless God, given that the Lethassan government and the Vizier guard their secrets closely. The origins of Vizier Thars' inherited powers remain one of Aesor's most hotly debated historical mysteries to this day. Regardless of the means employed, Vizier Thars seized the mantle of prophet of the Lightless God and declared that his words embodied the feared will of Lightless one. Every Nepheli within Lethassa embraced the words of this one-true prophet, dismantling the legacy of the Sulth Alliance and ushering in a new era. Thars founded the Lethassan Commonwealth, where Viziers were given absolute authority and inherited the Feared Secret of the Lightless God, a power wielded to sustain the sea, protect the people, and appease the Lightless God.Geography
