The
Volkran’dir, also known as the ‘
Ashes Above,’ claim the desolate expanse of the
Vahalzaar Badlands, south of the
Land of Fire as their home. Unlike their
Volkran’dur counterparts, who reside beneath the surface, the
Volkran’dir have adapted to the challenges of the harsh environment above ground.
Operating in a realm where survival is a daily struggle, the
Volkran’dir have honed their skills and craftsmanship to not only endure but prosper in the face of adversity. Their ability to navigate and thrive within the harsh
Vahalzaar Badlands sets them apart from their subterranean kin.
In the larger context of
Aesor, the
Volkran’dir distinguish themselves as a more civilized faction among the
Volkran people. Their engagement in trade, diplomatic interactions, and efforts to mediate the growing tension between their subraces, the
Volkran’dur, is notable. These endeavors showcase their willingness to bridge divides and pursue peaceful coexistence despite the challenging circumstances of their environment.

Volkran'dir command attention with their impressive stature, boasting an average height that ranges from 6 to 8 feet.
Volkran'dir exhibit a range of skin colors that span from the intense hue of pitch black to the pallor of light grey, reminiscent of the very ashes of their fiery land,
Vahalzaar.
Volkran'dir possess a deep crimson glow emanating from their eyes. It is a gaze that pierces darkness, and enables them to see even in the deepest depths of the earth.
Origins
The
Volkran'dir, a subrace within the
Volkran people, trace their origin to the tumultuous era following the
Year 820 of the First Age A.A. However, the
Volkran race as a whole came into being during the
Year 170 of the First Age A.A.
Like many of
Aesor's races, the
Volkran were believed to have been created by the hands of the
Óhin, forged in the fires of creation. Originally, the Volkran race embraced a harmonious existence centered around craftsmanship and mutual cooperation. This peaceful coexistence was tragically disrupted by the cataclysmic event known as the
Sundering.
The
Sundering marked a turning point in the
Volkran history, plunging the once-thriving region of
Vahalzaar into a landscape of desolation and eternal flames. The fiery upheaval shattered the unity of the
Volkran people, resulting in the birth of two distinct subraces: the
Volkran'dir and the
Volkran'dur.
The
Volkran'dir, colloquially referred to as the
'Ashes Above,' adapted to the surface of the scorched
Vahalzaar Badlands. In contrast, their counterparts, the
Volkran'dur or the '
Fire Beneath,' found solace beneath the volcanoes. This division, eternally etched into their history, serves as a testament to the
Volkran'dir's resilience and ability to endure despite the challenges imposed by their environment and the forces that shaped their fate.
