The Abbey of the Óhin

The Abbey of the Óhin stands as an international institution, functioning at the intersection of religion, society, and military might, perched upon Aepollum, the Isle of Dragons. Its roots trace back to the most turbulent era of Aesor, the Rage of Fates. As the new era began, within the span of four short decades, Aesor, bore witness to numerous disasters that brought the continent to the brink of collapse. Founded in the midst of this chaos in the Year 840, the Abbey emerged as a beacon of hope, a blessed gift of the Five Aesar, the acclaimed first founders of the Abbey. Through their various deeds, these renowned heroes bridged the gap between the mortal races and Dragons, and started the evolution of a relationship between the wise Paragons of Aepollum and the mortal races of Aesor. This alliance sought to transform the Dracary, once feared as instinct-driven beasts, into cherished companions. The Abbey was established with the grand vision of uniting the various nations under a single banner, forming the Second Draconic Empire, or also more commonly known as the Kingdom.

The Prophecy of Kalzamaath

The founding concept of the Kingdom was inspired by the prophetic words of Kalzamaath, known as the Óhin, the Dragongod of Aesor. This divine prophecy envisioned a united Aesor and an end to the corruption of Vals and its minions the Scions of Shadow, who had cast a pervasive shadow over the Myst and Aesor. In contrast to the First Draconic Empire, criticized for its draconian rule over Beasts, the Abbey wishes to see a Kingdom that seeks the welfare of all, transcending the barriers of race and servitude. It was created on the belief that while the First Draconic Empire served Dragons well, it perpetuated the suffering of the beings it spawned and kept them in slavery.

The Role & Structure of the Abbey

The Abbey does not merely represent a religion; it wants to mean home and family to the people of Aesor. It is not only a spiritual sanctuary but also a tireless herald of compassion, peacekeeping in hostile regions, charity work for the poor, aid to war veterans, and a haven for all kinds of people of Aesor. Its religion revolves around the Prophecy of Kalzamaath, which envisions a united Aesor, with each mortal having a rightful place within the Abbey's fold. The Abbey's written doctrines, guided by Kalzamaath's proclaimed beliefs, prioritize the respect for the fundamental rights of all beings, advocating complete freedom and harmony.

The Five Houses of the Abbey

The Abbey is governed by Five Houses, each rooted in one of the five primary elemental aspects and the Elemental Host of their corresponding races. These houses are:
  • House of the Dragon in Flames (Fire): Representing the spirit of bravery, strength, and energy.
  • House of the Buried Dragon (Earth): Grounded in stability, defensiveness, and responsiblity.
  • House of the Dragon in the Abyss (Water): Reflecting the depths of persistence, patience, adaptability, and fluidity.
  • House of the Howling Dragon (Air): Embracing innovation, tolerance, and versatility.
  • House of the Dragon in the Sky (Lightning): Charged with brightness, intimidation, and tirelessness.
Each House maintains embassies and headquarters within the territory of its corresponding Elemental Host, reinforcing the close link between their respective races and elements. These headquarters are usually located in a nation’s capital city.   Diplomacy plays a central role in the Abbey's mission. Its diplomats work tirelessly to unite nations, persuade them to commit to lasting peace, and encourage them to let go of past grievances in favor of a harmonious future.

The Six Tenets of Kalzamaath

The Prophet of the Abbey, Balrose Demisaga, alongside the House leaders and a close circle of the Abbey's most trusted priests and Fateseekers, authored the Six Tenets of Kalzamaath. These tenets serve as the fundamental laws of the Abbey, not only disseminating their wisdom but also conveying messages targeted at various races. Each tenet represents a puzzle piece in the quest to solve the most pressing problems of a race or nation.   The Six Tenets are as follows:
  1. Keep sacred the Óhin and the laws of its Abbey (Discipline - Volkran)
  2. There are many Houses, yet we serve the same cause (Unity - Gruul)
  3. Be Light, even when you are the only spark left (Purity - Alarians)
  4. Keep your balance, for it brings stability to you and the world around you (Balance - Arkey)
  5. Not all elements are equal, but Light outshines them all (Equality - Nepheli)
  6. In Earth you grow, from Fire you rise, In byou cleanse, by Wind you are carried, and by Lightning, you become the Kingdom (Wisdom - Ephyrans).
These tenets form the foundation of the Abbey's religion and racial propaganda.

The Agents of the Abbey

Apart from the Abbey’s role as a dominant religion and a charitable organization, the Abbey established an elite military division known as the Agents of the Abbey. Comprising spies, warriors, Marcry experts, and diplomats, this select group undertakes the most perilous and pivotal missions on behalf of the Abbey. The Agents protect the binterests when negotiating with other nations, work diligently to prevent manipulation or exploitation, and, at times, resort to the elimination of those who threaten Aesor's peace. They are also tasked with hunting down Dragonhunters and eliminating them on sight when necessary. Owing to these responsibilities, the Agents of the Abbey evoke both fear and respect, embodying an ever-watchful protector of the Abbey’s interests.
