Dragonborn

From the Nightlands, Dragonborn are strangers in Aesteria. Known as brutal raiders under the command of greater draconic kind, dragonborn are not looked kindly on in Vanreth and Requiem. There are communities of dragonborn who have abandoned the cruel warbands of the Nightlands to settle within Requiem and Vanreth, ussually under the guise of Alvicosta Lizardfolk.    Dragonborn culture is believed to be a strange one, with a system of scarring sections of the scales after losses. Dragonborn place those with unclean scales near the bottom of their societal ladder.

  • Speed: 30 feet
  • Draconic Ancestry. Your lineage stems from a dragon progenitor. Choose the type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestor table. Your choice affects your Breath Weapon and Damage Resistance traits. The chosen dragon also affects your appearance, with you displaying coloration and other features reminiscent of that dragon.
  • Breath Weapon. As an Action, you exhale destructive energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your Proficiency Bonus. On a failed save, a creature takes 1d10 + your character level in damage of the type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. You can use this Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
  • Damage Resistance. You have Resistance to the damage type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait.
  • Darkvision. You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

History

Very little is known of the history of the Dragonborn. It is known is that they do not originally come from the Nightlands, but were exiled there after a war in a distant land further south. Dragonborn live in the harsh mountain region of the Nightlands with a variety of sapient races such as dragons, kobolds, and drakes. Not all dragonborn are raiders, but with the harsh enviourments they often found themselves under the rule of cruel dragons or aggressive leaders.    Dragonborn have been a part of many attacks on eastern Vanderealm and Maldrere, attacking Requiem and Vanreth and destroying many farms and burning villages. They also participated in the War of the Dragon under the black dragon Khalzuth. In modern days Dragonborn still mostly reside in the Nightlands, living in cavern communities called Vracks out of the smoke the mountains. Some have moved into Aesteria but often hide under the guise of being lizardfolk to avoid discriminations.
