Firblog

Firbolg or "fey giants" are a race of giant-kin similar to Goliaths. However, Firbolgs have a strong connection to the fey with a majority of their race either descended from or directly coming from the feyrealm. Firbolg are primarily found in the lands of Ilmora, living alongside other fey races as well as the Wood Elves. Often seen as gentle giants thanks to their affinity for nature, Firbolg have proven they can be otherwise - their mix of magic and strength has pushed many into positions as strong warriors in Ilmoras armies.
  • Creature Type. You are a fey.
  • Size. Firbolg are between 7 and 8 feet tall and weigh between 240 and 300 pounds. Your size is Medium.

When you use this version of disguise self, you can seem up to 3 feet shorter than normal, allowing you to more easily blend in with humans and elves.
  • Hidden Step. As a bonus action, you can magically turn invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack, make a damage roll, or force someone to make a saving throw. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
  • Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
  • Speech of Beast and Leaf. You have the ability to communicate in a limited manner with beasts and plants. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no special ability to understand them in return. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them.

Naming Traditions

Firbolg names are important to them. A name in fey culture means a lot, to say out loud is powerful and for another to know it is just as powerful. Firbolg will often shorten their name and give only part of it.

History

Firbolg began life in the fey. Dedicated to the various courts, the Firbolg were designed by the fey courts in image of the giants of the material plane - to be strong and capable, warriors for the courts. But their process failed, the Firbolg appeared tall and strong and their connection to the fey was strong but their desire to fight was nearly non-existent. For thousands of years they resided in the fey realms, enjoying their time and using violence only as a last resort.    When the elves fled to the material plane, the Firbolg began to trickle out. Only after the fall of the empire did they truly become known, living within the forests of the south west, protecting small groves and claims. As the kingdoms formed and the world changed so did many members. Protection of the fey and the forests started to expand beyond stopping small groups and instead to stopping military forces. When the hidden wars with the Lordless Lands began Firbolg were found on both sides. And when the Winter War and war of the dragon emerged with threats to the lands in the form of the dwarves and the great black dragon, many more Firbolg rose up. It proved that Firbolg did have a drive to fight, but they needed to be inspired and not told to do so.    Now, Firbolg are split. Many remain near pacifists, keeping peace in sections of nature. But others have found a reason to fight - family, promises, duty, or desire and use that reason to become warriors.
