Goliath

Goliaths are a species of large, grey skinned humanoids related to giants. Primarely found in the Hastlands, Goliaths once ruled under giants before the fall of the giants. During the reign of the Pale Elves, Goliaths luckily escaped subjugation but that required them to become nomadic in nature - a practice that has stayed with many even during the age of the 4 kingdoms. Golaiths have a strong but tense relationship with the Dwarves, as the Dwarves still remember how the fragmented goliath failed to unite and free the dwarves during the Pale Elves.    Goliath are strong, durable, and hardy. They often travel, and most are nomadic - though there is a growing sect that is settling down in Hastlandian settlements.
  • Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.
  • Size. You are Medium.
  • Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.
  • Little Giant. You have proficiency in the Athletics skill, and you count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
  • Mountain Born. You have resistance to cold damage. You also naturally acclimate to high altitudes, even if you’ve never been to one. This includes elevations above 20,000 feet.
  • Stone's Endurance. You can supernaturally draw on unyielding stone to shrug off harm. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled and reduce the damage by that total. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Goliaths stand tall, ranging from 6-8 feet tall on average. They are humanoid in shape, often with darker tones of hair and grey skin. Said grey skin is ussually a lighter stone grey, though this ranges from group to group. Goliaths have darker markings over their skin, running as lines and forming shapes over them. Generally Goliaths are stronger and more well built than humans, but this has become more varied as Goliath leave nomadic tribal life styles behind.

Naming Traditions

Goliath Namesaren't all that important. It's believed most Goliaths will come and go from a nomadic tribe during their time, and so importance isn't put on individual names or titles.

History

Goliath historical records are mostly verbal and sadly many have been lost. It's known that when the Giants ruled the Hastlands, before the Elves arrived, the Goliaths served them. The capacity in which they served is unknown, with many thinking Goliaths were a work force or military force. In more modern history, Goliaths nomadic nature was forced on them when the Pale Elves invaded. An event known as the Stones Speak was held when it became clear the Pale Elves would envelop the north. This event was a meeting of major Goliath groups, all promising to leave their camps and wander as nomads - to avoid giving the Pale Elves themselves as labourers and dishonouring their giant ancestors.    When the empire fell and the Hastlands began to form, many of the tribes abandoned the Stone Speak treaty to join back into larger society. Others though, remain nomadic - thinking that the Soverreign and the Clans of the dwarves are another oppressive evil.
