Homeward Bee
Discovered in the Sellsword Woods, Homeword Bees are large, blue bees roughly the size of a raven, and lacking a stinger. Homeward Bees fly surprisingly fast and require little in the way of rest. Homeward Bees are all under a single queen who lives within a hive. Homeword Bees are mostly known for their pathfinding. If a bee is seperated from its hive, it can find its way back to it with little issue.
Homeword Bees gather arcane energy on their fuzz as they travel, allowing them to occasionally step into the ethereal plane and then back. While within the ethereal, they collect the pollen off spectral images of plants in the ethereal, and then travel back to the material and head back to their hive.
The pollen (referred to as ghost powder) is used to make a viscous silver liquid by the queen and workers, called death honey. This liquid is eaten by the hive, and grants them their ability to jaunt into the ethereal. Death honey is an arcane ingredient used in many potions, necrotic spells, and some baking. It's effect without extra ingredients is minimal on other creatures but is a tangy, spicy liquid.
Homeword Bee hives are kept in most cities in Requiem and Vanreth. These hives also stock bees from other hives. When one wants to send a message to another city, they can head into their cities hive and pay for a bee to be sent. A small pack will be filled with the contents of the package or the message, and the bee will be released - which will then travel towards its home hive in another city.
Bees kept within other cities are kept in magically imbued cages that keep them in a state of sleep, basically cutting them off from the ethereal which causes the bee to enter a deep sleep and require little food.
