Lizardfolk

Lizardfolk are reptilian humanoids that come in a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes. From deep in Alvicosta's jungles, Lizardfolks are split between tribal groups and those in more modern societal structures. Both sets often wind up in Aesteria, with tribal groups seeing traditional land taken by factions warring in Alvicostas jungles. This has led a set of Lizardfolks into the swamps near Ilmora. Other Lizardfolk enter Aesteria for trade or to escape issues in Alvicosta.    Tradditional Lizardfolk groups pride personal adventure and story telling, and are very much female led - with many female Lizardfolk having 3-6 husbands. Lizardfolk tribes pride personal expression and identity, and their groups and families are very fluid.
  • Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.
  • Size. You are Medium.
  • Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Bite. You have a fanged maw that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with it, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  • Hold Breath. You can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes at a time.
  • Hungry Jaws. You can throw yourself into a feeding frenzy. As a bonus action, you can make a special attack with your Bite. If the attack hits, it deals its normal damage, and you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
  • Natural Armour. You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren’t wearing armour, your base AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armour to determine your AC if the armour you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armour.
  • Nature's Intuition. Thanks to your mystical connection to nature, you gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, Nature, Perception, Stealth, or Survival.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Lizardfolk namesare very important for recording history, but the passing of a name down isn't important. Lizardfolk names are chosen within the first 3 years when the child has developed a personality, often chosen by the father of the child and the child itself.

History

Lizardfolk history is mostly up in the air. To most tribes broad history is less important that family or personal history, which is kept in a keepers tome. These are filled with stories of adventure, heroism, and loss which are often very much accurate to moments of Lizardfolk lives but have little to do with broad historical events. What is known is there is a divide in Lizardfolk society, with a large portion joining more modern cities and trading groups within Alvicosta or even Aesteria, and the rest remaining in their traditional tribes.    Many of these tribes have fled Alvicostas powder keg of factional guilds, settling in various small communities in the Lordless Lands or even Ilmora. Many Lizardfolk from Alvicostan cities have also fled into Aesteria, joining large population like Darkroad or the Hilt.
