Tabaxi

Tabaxi are a race of cat like humanoids from the jungles of Alvicosta. Rare to see in Aesteria, they're often seen as tribalistic and animal like. This is far from true. The humanoid group currently inhabiting and colonising Alvicosta did work to remove a lot of the tribal influence of the Tabaxi, and Tabaxi have seen nearly 2 hundred years of colonisation tearing away their previous heritage and beliefs. As such, most Tabaxi have little idea what their tribal ancestors were like or what they did. Tabaxi journeying into Aesteria ussually do so with a reason and few every stay. Often they're traders, working for one of the enigmatic Alvicosta guilds.
  • Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.
  • Size. You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.
  • Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Cat's Claws. You can use your claws to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  • Cat's Talent. You have proficiency in the Perception and Stealth skills.
  • Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colours in that darkness only as shades of gray.
  • Feline Agility. Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Tabaxi appear like humanoid versions of various big cat species, such as leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, and mountain lions. Often these are tropical cats and coloration, though mountainous tabaxi in the form of Lynxs or snow leapords have been seen before. Tabaxi have a variety of fur patterns and types from decades of mixing, looking more and more mixed and distant from the big cats they resemble.

Naming Traditions

Tabaxi names are often longer and a little more complex. The traditional names of Tabaxi are often a mix of 2 or more Alivcostan words - in hopes of inspiring traits in the child.

History

Tabaxi history has been lost over the 2 hundred years of colonisation. It's unknown to Aesteria where the guilds who inhabit Alvicosta came from, but when they arrived they did their best to colonise and remove the tribes of Tabaxi, incorporating them into society often at lower castes. This took decades of work but eventually many groups of Tabaxi were broken and forced into Guild colonies where they exist to this day. Some tribes did escape the effort, fleeing deper into the jungle like many lizardfolk. Now that the guilds that inhabit Alvicosta are on the brink of war, some Tabaxi are seeking escape into the more peaceful Aesteria.
