Ashmari
Providence is home to a secluded race of humans known as the Ashmari. The Ashmari settled the lands of Providence roughly three thousand years ago, when they were driven from their southern homelands. The Ashmari have always been akin to cold and icy regions, which allowed them to adapt to their new lands fairly quickly. Preferring isolation over oppression, they welcomed the lonely lands that few of their other humanoid brethren ever travelled. Here, the Ashmari build their empire over thousands of years, never fearing invaders, never urging to invade – the ice was their home – they needed nothing more.
Appearance
Ashmari are usually a tan darker in skin tone, which can be attributed to prolonged exposure to sunlight - but some remain pale while others have a more natural skin tone. Most Ashmari have snowy blond, or white hair, and striking icy blue eyes. The men are muscular and towering, capable of immense feats of strength and the women are short, sharp and possess the silver tongue of intrigue and duplicity. Ashmari men are considered above average tall and are considered menacing by those unfamiliar with their physical build. They usually grow long beards and braid them with various totems and customary trinkets. Ashmari women are considered below average short and fair-looking. They usually have long hair, proudly displaying its strikingly light colors.History
The Ashmari consider themselves the original inhabitants of the continent, and only their songs and tales can back up this claim. They originally inhabited the main temperate continent, around the equator; but were driven from their land by invaders; arriving in foreign looking ships. This war, rightly named the ‘Eviction War’, resulted in the mass exodus of the Ashmari people. The invaders drove them north, and the Ashmari finally found peace in a land besieged by snow and ice. The Ashmari believed the Gods had guided them to this land, and the Gods wanted to test Ashmari spirit by ordering them to master the elements; thus, the Ashmari, named their land: Providence, meaning guided by God.Homeland
The Ashmari people live primarily in the Providence region, and mostly in the northern parts - in the safety of their mountain fortresses and cities. Ashmari usually only leave their land to conduct trade, negotiation and adventure. The latter doesn't happen often, for Ashmari believe that the ultimate test of adventuring is in braving the frozen peaks of Providence. Providence is a land suited especially to the Ashmari people and they seldom feel at home somewhere else - some have traveled to other lands in business or adventure - but most return home; preferring the mountain air over the swamps and plains of the warmer South.
