Draugar (Droe-gr / Drogue)

Draugar are commonly associated with the deceased who were buried with their possessions, which often included weapons and valuable items. In some cases, draugar are described as protecting their burial mounds or graves, preventing grave robbers or treasure hunters from taking their possessions. In other instances, draugar may guard treasure hidden in caves or other remote locations. They are often portrayed as powerful and dangerous adversaries, making it difficult for those seeking the treasure to claim it.   Strengths: Superhuman strength: Draugar are known for their immense physical strength, allowing them to overpower most mortal opponents. Resilience: As undead creatures, draugar are difficult to kill or injure, making them formidable adversaries. Environmental influence: Draugar can manipulate the environment around them, causing unnatural cold or darkness to spread, and potentially affecting the morale of their enemies.   Weaknesses:   Sunlight: Draugar are often vulnerable to sunlight, which may weaken them or turn them to stone. Limited intelligence: While cunning, draugar may not possess the same level of intelligence as they did in life, making them susceptible to being outwitted or tricked. Tether to grave: Draugar are typically connected to their burial site, which could serve as a vulnerability if the grave is disturbed or consecrated.   Formation: Draugar are formed when a deceased individual, often someone who was greedy, vengeful, or otherwise malicious in life, refuses to pass on to the afterlife. Instead, their spirit reanimates their corpse, creating an undead creature that retains some of its former traits and memories. The transformation into a draugr may be triggered by a strong attachment to material possessions or unfinished business in the mortal realm.   Destruction methods:   Fire: Immolating the draugr can destroy its physical form, preventing it from reanimating and causing harm. Enchanted combat: Using weapons coated with special oils or blessed by a priest or shaman could render them more effective against the draugr, allowing a skilled warrior to defeat the creature. Graveyard ritual: Performing a ritual on the draugr's grave site, such as consecrating the ground, rearranging the grave, or reburying the body, could sever the creature's connection to the mortal world and force it to pass on to the afterlife.
