Haugbui (H-ow-boo-ee)

Haugbui is a type of undead creature, similar to the draugr. The name Haugbui translates to "mound-dweller" or "barrow-dweller," as these creatures are believed to reside in burial mounds or barrows. Unlike the more malevolent draugr, Haugbui are typically less aggressive and more bound to their burial sites.   Formation: Haugbui are formed when the spirit of a deceased person remains attached to their earthly remains and the burial mound where they were interred. This attachment could be due to a strong connection to their possessions or a reluctance to move on to the afterlife.   Characteristics: Haugbui are usually described as resembling their living forms, though they may appear more decayed or ghostly. They tend to stay within or near their burial mounds and are less likely to actively seek out and harm the living compared to draugar. However, if someone intrudes on their mound or attempts to steal their possessions, a Haugbui may become aggressive and defend its territory.   Weaknesses: As Haugbui are more connected to their burial sites, their influence and power may be limited to the area surrounding their mound. They may also share some of the weaknesses of draugar, such as vulnerability to sunlight or susceptibility to certain rituals.   Destruction or neutralization: Dealing with a Haugbui may involve different methods than those used to destroy a draugr. Since they are more closely tied to their burial site, addressing the issue at the mound itself may be effective. This could involve consecrating the ground, performing a ritual to help the spirit move on, or simply respecting the boundaries of the Haugbui's territory and not disturbing its grave.
