The Zodiark Chronologicals IX

4th Chapter — L'Enfant Sauvage — The Zodiark Log 009 — Year 200 Location: Flarethorn Kingdom - Ember's End   (Personal Notes) — For our debut, well, solo mission… Well, unsupervised by any higher ranked Aether Wing member, the Zodiark crew have arrived at Ember’s End.   We are supposed to delve into the Amber Vault. I've studied the file on the sky island meticulously, words don't make it justice.   To tell you the truth, I'm a bit disappointed, it's all too… ah, commercialised! Very much what some would call in common: a tourist trap. Fortunately, a very helpful native has offered his services and is going to show us the true Blaze Haven! Swindle is taking us to a true adventure!   Something important has come to light about Soot! Apparently his father is the person responsible for the technology that is used in the Firelight Isle. I feel I should have noticed it before, Soot bears’ Doctor Jakob Fitzgerald brand. I might have projected my feeling of homesickness, missing my family and my beloved upon my comrade.. Truthfully, I did. Well, we got to meet one of Soot’s ?siblings¿   Yunseul has become more comfortable with me after our performance at the Solstice Celebration, and it is clear that they are trying to support me in my insecure prolixity. I must thank them properly and become more assertive.   Well, can't wait to meet Swindle and get our adventure started!

The Zodiark Chronologicals VIII

3rd Chapter — L'Enfant Sauvage — The Zodiark Log 008 — Year 200 Location: Skyhold   (Personal Notes) — The Zodiark crew all got shoes! Well Talia's experience helped me choose a beautiful pair as a gift for Veranesta. I might have been recognised… the lying is becoming unbearable.   We gathered to watch the show of the Solstice… I wasn't expecting to be required to perform with Nyx, but I did. And it was awesome, I believe we are connecting more as friends. The play was alright, Hideo Kazehara's performance was… well dare I say overshadowed by Talia’s amazing skills? Because it was!   It's overwhelming how talented and skilled these people are, I have to step up my game and do better. Luckily Savis has offered to train with me! Can you imagine that? The half-dragon Guardian himself training me? I hope I don't disappoint!   We are heading back to the aether sea soon, as per order of Guild Master Lessette Flare.   I've received correspondence from Veranesta, I miss her so much. Decided that my crew should know my true name.   They are my crew, I will die before anything happens to them.

The Zodiark Chronologicals VII

3rd Chapter — L'Enfant Sauvage — The Zodiark Log 007 — Year 200 Location: Skyhold (Personal Notes) — Xiu Mei has instructed us to return to Skyhold. The long journey allowed us, as a crew, to improve in our skills, everyone was busy. I had the chance, the honour and the privilege to play with Yunseul, their music is amazing. They were having a hard time with a melody, and apparently my amateur beginner musically has inspired them in producing the most beautiful melody I've ever heard, I'm proud to have been part of it.   We arrived just in time for the Solstice celebrations. I wasn't aware it was such a big celebration. Back home it would be Father, Mother, and I. The Feuillevent and Veranesta would show up bearing gifts.   Skyhold ready for the festivities!   The Zodiark crew went shopping, Mr Roaches, Soot and I, all had our first purchase of … anything, I think. I believe both of my companions like me had never bought or been to a store before.   Talia and Yunseul went elsewhere, we met them after. We met later, we went looking for shoes… I've never bought shoes!

The Zodiark Chronologicals VI

2nd Chapter — L'Enfant Sauvage — The Zodiark Log 006 — Year 200 Location: Aquaveil — Hydrarok Dominion   (Personal Notes) — I believe we have encouraged our second skybeast.   As we were preparing to rest for the night, we, well, I was still in pain, I found Shurr at the bridge contemplating the night sky with his new star map. There was, apparently, some anomaly with it that reminded me of this adventure book I read a long time ago, where a pirate ship would use a cloaking device that reflected the sky behind it, but reversed… Almost mockingly I activated Zodiark's radar, expecting nothing… but something did registered.   While Soot and Shure powdered-up the ships guns, hoping it had enough power for a couple shots if needed, I ran to find Talia and Yunseul. I managed to reach Yunseul with the telecommunicator, but Talia wasn't responding when the creature attacked… will have a conversation with the crew about security procedures, I have a feeling not all have read the manuals.   The Zodiark opened fire on the creature, and with some help from us outside, it was brought down.   This octopus-like monster looked sickly, infected, probably why it had been so easy to bring down. And it was apparently attracted by the lights our crew had fixed earlier for the celebration of the solstice.   Besides the slight overlooking of the security procedures, I'm extremely impressed by how efficient the Zodiark’s crew is. I even forgot I was in the middle of a battle and got distracted just watching how powerful they all are. Wonder if I'm good enough for this crew, I have to step up, will start training more, Soot will help me.

The Zodiark Chronologicals V

2nd Chapter — L'Enfant Sauvage — The Zodiark Log 005 — Year 200 Location: Aquaveil — Hydrarok Dominion     (Personal Notes) — Well, so we performed at the Aquaveil's Winter Solstice, my first time ever playing in public, well, for more that one person or my parents. Talia and Yunseul danced, well they danced like i never seen, well, except for Veranesta I hasn't seen many people dance... The fireworks were amazing and the illumination, apparently, worked for the first time in years, all done by the skilled hands of Shurr and Soot.   The celebration was amazing, we were having fun, dancing, when Elder Kaelen approached us — He had decided to give us early access to the catacombs under Aquaveil. I was a bit confused as per this offer, but I believe I understood it after — We delved in the catacombs, we solved several puzzle rooms and we faced a elemental creature, we defeated it — I believe this was part of the Winter Solstice, a ritual of bonding.   I'm happy that I have friends now, I must right to Veranesta!

The Zodiark Chronologicals IV

2nd Chapter — L'Enfant Sauvage — The Zodiark Log 005 — Year 200
  • Location: Aquaveil — Hydrarok Dominion
  • (Personal Notes) — We have crashed landed in Aquaveil, this quite hamlet in the Hydrarok Dominion. A pest has chewed on some important Zodiark's components and we lost power midair, fortunately I managed to stear it into water, and no one got hurt... For a moment I really thought it had been my fault, my lack of experience... From now on I'll do a more thorough inspection and will not take flight until I'm absolutely sure we don't have one of those metal chewers on board.   I think the crew expects me to be the face of the Zodiark Crew, but my fear of being recognised is hindering this...   Well, we need parts to call help Skyhold so we ventured into town. People here are very welcoming. Unfortunately the specialist is out in a expedition and we have to wait, so we made ourselves available to assist in the preparations for the party tonight. Shurr and Soot fixed some essential equipment, Talia and Yunseul are performing a dance and I'll be playing my Hurdy-gurdy for the first time... Well, it will be the first time I'll play for more than one person, I'm nervous.   Also, we found out there are some catacombs underneath the hamlet, we figured that we would explore them, as we still have time until the specialist returns.   In another note, I also choose to hide my magic ability. One of the elders was impressed that so many of the crew could do magic. This clearly shows how special the Aetherwings are.   Xiu Mei makes me nervous, her carefree disposition reminds me too much of my Veranesta, hope she doesn't notice that I'm actively avoiding her.   I'll gather more notes and information, and after we delve into the catacombs I'll have enough material for this second chapter of The Zodiark Chronologicals

    The Zodiark Chronologicals III

    1st Chapter — Lee — The Zodiark Log 004 — Year 200
  • Location: *Snake Temple*
  • Our pledge to Seraphis' spirit infused us with a surge of their indomitable power, a formidable force that emboldened our resolve. With determination ablaze, we pressed onward, venturing deeper into the heart of the Snake Temple, a testament to our dedication to the Avenger's legacy. Our path led us to a formidable adversary, a giant emerald snake that reacted aggressively to our presence. The crew of The Zodiark rallied with unwavering bravery. Soot unleashed their cannon's fury, Shurr's arrows and magic sought their mark, while Yunseul and Talia harnessed the Elemental Laws to face the serpent head-on. Eduard von Sternberg and I engaged the monster with all our might, the Summer Rose Rapier in my hand gleaming with determination. The battle was an intricate dance of evasion, flanking, and daring leaps, but not without its toll. We endured numerous blows, and at one perilous moment, Talia and I were swallowed whole by the serpent, an experience that tested my mettle to the fullest. As the crew of The Zodiark relentlessly attacked the emerald snake, a vulnerability emerged within the beast's defences. In the throes of battle, Yunseul, ever watchful and wise, seized the opportunity and struck with all their might. The creature squirmed and convulsed, before finally succumbing to our unified onslaught, falling lifeless in defeat.   Our victory was hard-fought, and our comradeship shone through as we tended to each other's wounds. Our journey within the Snake Temple had been one of trials and tribulations, but we had emerged victorious. Returning to the chamber of the sarcophagus, Seraphis's spirit contemplated our feats with a sense of approval and awe. In that moment, we realised that we had become Seraphis's Avengers, a title and legacy we would carry with honour and pride, bonded not only by the trials we had overcome but by the spirit of Seraphis himself.   (Author's Personal notes) — This, this has shooked me. The thought of never see Veranesta ever again almost became overwhelming. I almost died.

    The Zodiark Chronologicals I

    1st Chapter — Lee — The Zodiark Log 002 — Year 200
  • Location: Snake Temple
  • Today marked the beginning of our daring exploration of the Snake Temple, a place shrouded in mystery and hidden away from the eyes of the world. As we disembarked from The Zodiark, and approached the entrance to the Snake Temple by foot, we were met with a stark contrast. Dense vegetation and skyfauna, an unruly tangle of life, surrounded us, almost concealing the path. Lush ferns and towering trees competed for space amidst sharp rocks and stones that jutted out like ancient sentinels. As we pushed through this wild border, the temple's entrance came into view. Adorned with intricate snake-like reliefs carved into the stone. Boldly, we ventured deeper into the temple's heart. The first room was nothing short of spectacular, its grandeur rivalling the tales of ancient civilizations. At its centre stood a formidable snake statue, one that unnervingly followed with its gaze the movements of the last person who had set foot within. The enigmatic aura of the chamber was heightened by a curious mechanism, adorned with inscriptions in primordial runes, which lay before the imposing statue.   In the earth's embrace, wisdom lies, Seek the serpent's unblinking eyes. Turn the stone to match its gaze, Or be caught in the serpent's maze.   To either side of the sentinel snake, we beheld statues of serpent-like humanoid figures, their presence casting an eerie and foreboding air about the room. A decision had to be made. With a collective curiosity and a dash of bravery, we dared to interact with the mysterious mechanism. As we deciphered the ancient runes and made the mechanism respond, a door at the far end of the room grudgingly began to open, revealing an uncharted passage that beckoned us to explore further.   Our jubilation was short-lived, for the serpent statues flanking the guardian snake sprang to life, as if awakened from an eternal slumber. With malice gleaming in their eyes, they advanced upon us, striking with speed and ferocity. It was a battle of life and death, courage versus fear, as our party stood together, facing the threat head-on. In the end, through skill, teamwork, and determination, we emerged victorious, our adversaries defeated and returned to dust and rubble. The Snake Temple had unveiled its first secrets, and we were left with both the thrill of conquest and the reminder that the ancient ruins of Aetheria held both peril and promise in equal measure. Our journey through this enigmatic place had only just begun. We pressed forward with each step, revealing ever more treacherous challenges. As we entered the next chamber, a surreal sight awaited us. The floor was covered in sand, but this was no ordinary sand. It moved almost like water, creating an illusion of shifting dunes beneath our feet. Above, the ceiling was adorned with menacing metal spikes, poised like a deadly trap.   To navigate this perilous terrain, Talia summoned magical light, illuminating areas of darker sand amidst the shifting grains. It soon became apparent that these darker patches were ominous triggers; if disturbed, they would set in motion the cruel descent of the ceiling spikes, a fate none of us wished to experience. Carefully, with our hearts pounding, we made our way across the treacherous sands. The challenge was exacerbated by the fact that the footprints of the person in front would swiftly disappear in the relentless movement of the sand. We had to rely on trust and communication as we navigated this dangerous puzzle together, guiding one another away from the sinister darker patches. By using our wits, coordinated teamwork, and the nimble touch of a Mage Hand to test the suspicious spots, we successfully crossed the room unscathed. It was a collective sigh of relief as we moved on, deeper into the heart of the Snake Temple, the ancient ruin had already tested our mettle and resourcefulness, but we remained undeterred. As we descended further into its depths. The descent was a winding journey, our path illuminated only by Talia's magical light, we arrived at another room, one that held its own mysteries. From the vantage point of the stairs, we carefully observed our surroundings, attempting to remain hidden from the snake-like humanoids in the room. Directly in front of us lay a peculiar fountain, from which a curious cascade of sand poured, obscuring a massive ruby at its centre. The gem glimmered with an entrancing allure. In the main room six or more snake-like humanoids had congregated. Unlike the statues we had encountered earlier, these beings were alive and seemingly engaged in prayer before an imposing throne, adorned with a colossal jewel. We huddled in discussion for a few tense minutes, contemplating our next move. We weighed the options, debating whether to attempt to sneak past the snake-like beings or confront them directly. The room held an air of palpable tension, filled with both the anticipation and the shadowy veil of the unknown.   (Author's Personal notes) — I'm inclined to take some creative liberties at this point, for what happened next is probably the most embarrassing thing to have ever happened to me. Without communicating my intentions to my comrades, I designed to try to distract the snake people to assist the others to sneak, I would then lose my pursuers and turn back to meet the party… Ah well, I just remembered running to face all the Snake people, felt my body tense-up… and then I woke up and I was at the feet of one of these creatures while my companion fought the rest. I was gravely wounded, but despite my shortcomings the Zodiark crew prevailed. I have much to apologise for.

    The Zodiark Chronologicals II

    1st Chapter — Lee — The Zodiark Log 003 — Year 200
  • Location: Snake Temple
  • In that decisive moment, paralyzed by a mix of awe and trepidation, I summoned the courage to step in front of the grand throne, determined to distract the snake-like beings who had been deeply engrossed in their mysterious ritual. The room was filled with an eerie silence, disrupted only by the distant echoes of our earlier battle. As I hastily moved, my heart pounding in my chest, it was clear that the snake-people had indeed taken notice. Their eyes, like coiled serpents, locked onto me, and for an instant, I felt a paralysing force grip my very being. My world stood still, I was petrified. My valiant companions fought the snake people, and restored my ability to move. For a moment I could join the battle, but then I was struck and downed, wounded. I could only have faith in my company's strength. The Snake people were vanquished as our ever-reliable comrade, Soot, appeared like a shining beacon of assistance. Their presence brought a renewed sense of unity and purpose to our group.   As we caught our breath and tended to our injuries, the room's secrets began to reveal themselves to Shurr, our ever-curious seeker of knowledge, made a remarkable discovery. This chamber, and especially the gem adorning the throne, were irrevocably connected to the Elemental Law of Shadow, an enigma that held the key to our predicament. With newfound insights and Shurr's guidance, Yunseul ventured into the range of the power-stone, and with a touch both resolute and courageous, they channelled their energy into the jewel. In an instant, the gem's radiance dimmed, and its malevolent power waned. The once-paralysing force had been vanquished, leaving the room bathed in a tranquil, otherworldly light. Our journey into the Snake Temple had revealed yet another layer of its enigma, and the strength of our crew's unity had shone through once more. With the gem's power neutralised, our exploration could continue, and our hearts remained steadfast in the face of the temple's mysteries, challenges, and the revelations yet to be uncovered in the astonishing realm of Aetheria.   We pressed on into the depths of the Snake Temple, that led us to a profound discovery - the resting place of Seraphis the Avenger. The sarcophagus, a masterpiece of intricate earth runes, emitted a soft, ethereal green glow that bathed the chamber in a mystic light. The runes, aged and weathered, appeared to serve as a protective enchantment, their purpose clear according to Shurr: safeguarding the eternal repose of Seraphis. Upon closer inspection, these runes told the tale of Seraphis's legendary battles and their deep connection to the earth and nature. It was a testament to the Avenger's legacy and the reverence with which they were remembered. At the base of the sarcophagus, an ancient primordial inscription, as elegant as it was enigmatic, offered a eulogy to Seraphis, honoring their valor and unwavering commitment. The words, while lost in translation, carried a palpable sense of mourning and reverence. But it was the celestial map etched into the inner lid of the sarcophagus that revealed a greater mystery. Seraphis had left behind a celestial guide, featuring constellations significant in their life's journey. We marvelled at the precision and profound symbolism etched into the stars above.   Our exploration took an unexpected turn as Talia and Yunseul, our intrepid comrades, managed to communicate with the spirit of Seraphis. The Avenger, less than pleased with our presence, set upon us a formidable task: to face and destroy the snake invaders plaguing the temple.   (Author's Personal notes) — Well, we fought a giant snake, we almost dies, I ... I can't talk about it yet, it still hunts me!

    The Zodiark Chronologicals

    1st Chapter — Lee — The Zodiark Log 001 — Year 200
  • Location: Aethersea
  • Today's adventure on the world of Aetheria brought us closer as a crew and forged bonds that promise to be as unbreakable as the sky itself. As we continue our journey on the awe-inspiring skyship The Zodiark, it is with great excitement and gratitude that I chronicle this day. A massive, extremely territorial Earth Dragon attacked The Zodiark. In the midst of the aerial battle between The Zodiark and the extremely territorial Earth Dragon, the sky was ablaze with action and magic. Eduard, our exceptional pilot, expertly manoeuvred the skyship with precision. As I assisted him as a co-pilot, I marvelled at his skill and determination. Shurr, Talia, and Yunseul, standing firm at the ship's arcane ballistas, unleashed a barrage of enchanted projectiles and spells upon the attacking dragon. Their combined efforts filled the air with crackling energy and fiery bursts as they defended our skyship. The dragon's roars of fury were met with their unwavering resolve. The battle between The Zodiark and the Earth Dragon was a spectacle of bravery, magical prowess, and daring manoeuvres. The clash of elements, arcane projectiles, and the dragon's ferocity created a dramatic aerial confrontation that showcased the unity and strength of our crew. As the combined efforts of our crew took their toll on the Earth Dragon, the magnificent creature was immobilised in midair, and it fell. The dragon's survival remained uncertain, but our immediate concern was to make our escape. With the dragon falling from the sky, we swiftly manoeuvred The Zodiark away from the scene of battle, leaving the territorial beast behind. Our objective, the skyruin of the Snake Temple, beckoned us, and we made haste to reach it. Our focus shifted from confrontation to exploration, but the knowledge that we might have to face the dragon once more on our return journey to Skyhold lingered in the back of our minds. The skies held both peril and promise, and our adventures in Aetheria have just begun.   (Author's Personal notes) — The crew of The Zodiark is extraordinary. Eduard von Sternberg is an exceptional pilot and exceeds what is written about him in the manuals. I will learn from him my experience as a co-pilot has made me want to learn how to fly the Zodiark. While the rest of the crew are intrepidly brave, jumped immediately to action when we were faced with the imminent attack of an Earth Dragon. I clearly have much to learn from all of them, and I'm excited to do so. Yunseul was kind enough to assist me in "breaking ice" with the legendary "Scales", Talia's cheerful positive aura was enough to stop my shaking hands in the face of the dragon, and Shurr, their passion for knowledge is contagious, I would love to be there when they discover whatever is they are looking for, it would be an honour to be mere spectator. We prepare to land.
