True dragons, that take the form of traditional Western and European Dragons, are quadrupedal and winged creatures, with long tails and necks.
All True Dragons are a classification of dragons that gain more abilities and greater power as they age. They are contrasted with lesser dragons, a broad category of dragon-type creatures such as drakes, wyverns, lesser linnorms, amphitheatre, hydra, etc. Lesser dragons are distantly related to true dragons. They range in length from several feet from hatching to more than 100 feet after attaining the status of Great Wyrm. The size of a particular dragon varies according to age and variety.
A Dragon's metabolism operates like a highly efficient furnace and can metabolize even inorganic material. Some dragons have developed a taste for such fare.
Although goals and ideals vary among varieties, all Dragons are covetous. They like to hoard wealth, collecting mounds of coins and gathering as many gems, jewels, and magic items, as possible. Those with large hoards are loath to leave them for long, venturing out of their lairs only to patrol the immediate area or to get food. For dragons, there is no such thing as enough treasure. It's pleasing to look at, and they bask in its radiance. Dragons like to make beds of their hoards, shaping nooks and mounds to fit their bodies. By the time a dragon matures to the age of Great Wyrms, hundreds of gems and coins may be embedded in its hide.
All Dragons speak Draconic.

CHROMATIC DRAGONS
The best-known types of true dragons are the five species of Chromatic Dragons, whose form is a more chaotic and evil and multi-coloured branch of Dragonkind. They are aggressive, greedy, vain and nasty. Their scales are of particular colours
- Black: An acid-breathing dragon who inhabits swamps, also known as Skull Dragons.
- Blue: A desert-dwelling dragon who breathes a line of lightning, also known as Storm Dragons.
- Green: A forest-dwelling dragon that breathes poisonous gas, also known as Forest Dragons.
- Red: A fire-breathing dragon, and the strongest of the chromatic dragons.
- White: The weakest of the chromatic dragons, which breathes a cone of icy cold.
Some rare chromatic dragons possess scales of fixed colour but are not one of the five colours. They are speculated to be the result of rare interbreeding between true chromatic dragons. Some myths suggest that they are abandoned bastard offspring.
- Brown Dragon: A forest-dwelling neutral dragon able to shape change into a forest animal.
- Gray Dragon: A rare-ice dwelling dragon.
- Orange Dragon: A dragon who breathes colour spray. They mate for life. Also known as the Sodium Dragon.
- Pink Dragon: A whimsical chaotic dragon that breathes bubbles.
- Purple Dragon: An evil species of dragon, otherwise known as the Energy Dragon.
- Yellow Dragon: A dragon who assumes human form, its breath weapon can cause disease or blindness. Also known as the Salt Dragon.
METALLIC DRAGONS
Metallic dragons make up the good or lawful branch of Dragonkind, but they are every bit as aggressive as their evil cousins when threatened or challenged. They also tend to be covetous and proud, usually noble and highly respected by the wise.
- Brass: A desert-dwelling dragon with a love of conversation.
- Bronze: A water-dwelling dragon with a strong sense of justice.
- Copper: A dragon with a love of humour that inhabits rocky mountain areas.
- Silver: A dragon who breathes cold and inhabits icy mountaintops and cloudy lairs.
- Gold: The most powerful of the metallic dragons, which breathes fire.
Some less common metallic dragons exist - most of which have died from the War with the Giants, and remain unseen and isolated among the world.
- Electrum Dragon: A rare dragon species, peaceful, philosophically inclined and tended to live far away from civilised areas.
- Steel Dragon: Spending most of its life in human form, a solitary dragon that finds joy in warfare and collecting weapons. They always had a problem when dealing with authority and preferred to be free.
GEM DRAGONS
The Gem Dragons are psionic, rather than magical in nature. A type of dragon with crystalline scales, they were aloof, solitary and self-centred. They are all naturally neutral in alignment. All were driven from the Material Plane by the Dwarves, prized for their naturally beautiful and rich scaled hides - they have since resided within the Elemental Planes of Earth, Fire, Air and Water.
- Amethyst Dragon: A purple-lavender skinned dragon with crystal-like scales of the Earth Element, known for its diplomatic tendencies. They had a breath that released a blast of concussive force - they were the most powerful of the gem dragons.
- Crystal Dragon: A white dragon inhabiting the Elemental Plane of Air. They had a blinding cone of white light for a breath weapon - they were the smallest of the gem dragons and had translucent crystalline scales.
- Emerald Dragon: A green dragon of the Air element, known for its curiosity. Mostly reclusive and lawful, paranoid, inquisitive about history. They breathed a powerful blast of wind, with scintillating scales that were in many shades of green, making them appear to be in constant motion.
- Sapphire Dragon: A highly territorial blue dragon of the Earth Element. They also tended to live in the Underdark, mainly eating giant spiders - considering all within the Underdark their enemies. Their breath weapon was a blast of noise that caused panic. They were sometimes mistaken for blue dragons.
- Topaz Dragon: A golden dragon of the water element, known for its selfish and erratic behaviour. Erratic and antisocial, preferring to live by beaches, feeling the sea-wind against their faceted yellow-orange scales.
- Obsidian Dragon: The most intelligent and most dangerous of the Gem Dragons - having smooth black glass-like scales that had razor edges and could also breathe a coin of fire. They preferred to lair near volcanoes and were notable for their psionic abilities.
LUNG DRAGONS
Wingless, serpent-like dragons of Oriental legend. They are extinct, destroyed and slaughtered during the War between the Giants.
- Yu Lung: Called the Carp Dragon, it is the infant form of Lung Dragons, which grows into the other known types.
- Chiang Lung: Called the River Dragon, it is a water spirit that inhabits rivers and lakes.
- Li Lung: Called the Earth Dragon, it lives underground. Unlike most lung dragons, it is winged.
- Lung Wang: A mighty sea dragon.
- Pan Lung: Called the Coiled Dragon, it is a water spirit that guards temples and burial sites.
- Shen Lung: Called the Spirit Dragon, it is a water spirit believed to bring good fortune.
- T'ien Lung: Called the Celestial Dragon, they are the strongest and the rulers of the Lung Dragons.
- Tun'Mi Lung: Called the Typhoon Dragon, they are evil dragons who create storms.
