Bloodthorn

Bloodthorns are large plants native to Inferna.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A bloodthorn typically has three to five stems, which are covered in thorns. Each of these thorns has a small hole in the tip, from which a proboscis can emerge. Bloodthorns are capable of moving their stems, but lack locomotive ability.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Bloodthorns are hematophagous. A bloodthorn spends most of its time still, often keeping some or all of its stems concealed. When potential prey comes within range, the bloodthorn attacks, wrapping its stems around a target (or targets), restraining them, and piercing them with its thorns. At this point, proboscides emerge from any thorn that has pierced its prey, allowing it to drink the blood of whatever it has restrained. It is rare for a bloodthorn to totally drain a medium-sized or larger target in one feeding, but it will keep its prey restrained until there is no blood left or it is forced to let go.

Additional Information

Domestication

Domesticated bloodthorns have a variety of uses, the most common being guarding noble residences. Another common use for bloodthorns is for blood transfusions.

Average Intelligence

Despite being plants, bloodthorns are typically considered to have an animal-like level of intelligence.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Bloodthorns are typically a brownish-red color.
