Lycanthropy

A hati, more commonly known as a werewolf, is someone afflicted with a (usually) uncontrollable shapeshifting ability originating from the Vanarir of Hel. The condition is commonly called lycanthropy in Aevorea.

Transmission & Vectors

Most werewolves become such through being afflicted with lycanthropy by a Vanar or another werewolf. This is generally done through bites. It must be done intentionally by a Vanar, but occurs randomly from werewolves, with a roughly thirty-five percent chance of infection per bite.   Lycanthropy can also be inherited by a werewolf's children. If one parent is a werewolf, there is a roughly sixty percent chance of the child also being one. If both parents are werewolves, this increases to one hundred percent.

Symptoms

Those afflicted with lycanthropy will involuntarily transform into a form similar to that of a Vanar every full moon, usually losing their impulse control and essentially becoming feral, and extremely violent. Once the sun rises, they transform back into their normal form. Upon changing back, many werewolves experience partial or full loss of memory of the previous night.

Treatment

The only known cure for lycanthropy is a potion made with part of the specific Vanar or werewolf that caused the affliction. Blood is most commonly used, but a variety of things work, including but not limited to: hair, saliva, and skin. If the condition was caused by another werewolf, this ingredient must be obtained while it is transformed.

Cultural Reception

Werewolves are generally feared and hated, and there have been incidents where people have been killed after being accused of being werewolves, even if they weren't.
