The Scroll Circle
An academy and library in the Realm of Yane.
Structure
The Circle is lead by the Humble Sage, who is elected yearly by the senior members. All other positions, like heads of faculty, the treasurer and so on are chosen on a case by case basis, usually favoring the more experienced ones. Should conflict arise the Humble Sage has the final say. The students go through the ranks of Novice, Writer, Speaker, Debater, Thinker and Master; each one bringing with it a new set of privileges and responsibilities. Masters go through a final test before assuming the Circle's highest rank as Sages.
Public Agenda
Furthering the spread of knowledge and science, with no regards towards the students' origin. Making the knowledge widely accessible through the newly invented printing press.
Assets
Directly funded by the government of the Realm of Yane. Invaluable manuscripts from all around the known world.
History
Founded by Duke Oxay in Molungo, shortly after the Realm of Yane gained independence. It was modeled after the ancient Library of Pelxeri which had survived the Fire but later burnt down during the Hokkaylian War. Coupled with the rapidly spreading technology of the Printing Press, the goal was to make knowledge more widely available by reprinting old tomes and texts and distributing them, making a concentration of knowledge in one place less likely, thus preventing another disaster like in Pelxeri. To raise a next generation of well-learned librarians the educational wing of the Circle was formed shortly after. The policy of allowing anyone to apply at the Circle, regardless of their social class or origin, was radical for the time. While it still restricted the pool of potential students to those who had the means to travel to Molungo and were already somewhat educated, there were a few cases of dirt-poor, but smart students who managed to meet the application requirements.
