Lycanthropy

Werewolves exist, the crew knows at least that much. It stands to reason if they exist some of the other furries do as well. Likewise something has to be making them. So far as we know it seems to be magic rabies, what the educated want to call Lycanthropy.

Transmission & Vectors

Presumably a bite. However, due to the rarity of the condition this seems unlikely the sole factor in transmission. It is likely few survive the process, or survive an attack by a werebeast to be changed.

Sequela

The ability to turn into a wolf has been confirmed. It is unknown if those affected can further control their forms, or assume that wolfman half-human half-wolf form from fiction.

Cultural Reception

Traditionally humans have reacted poorly to werewolves. By poorly we mean hunting parties and forest fires to exterminate them.
