The Myrk
Also called the Myst or Gloom.
The Myrk is a magical fog that obscures The Nether from the s, keeping the horrors within from their memories. It is so powerful that it can cause a normie to rationalize almost any encounter with a away a short time after they leave its presence.
Those Touched touched by the Nether can ignore the Myrk and perceive the world it hides from the sleeping Normies. Those who can are often called awakened, touched or s. Though many Netherbeings have their own names for it.
Manifestation
Mortals tend to be overwhelmed by things that do not fit into reality as they know it. The dreamlands are a wonderful and terrible place, too complex for mortal minds. This manifests in several ways.
The Myst
Most mortals simply chose not to see things. This inclination is assisted by a physical fog that accumulates around areas where the Nether is active. Obscuring the unnatural activities going on. It makes things difficult to make out and obscures recording equipment as well. The Gloom
When exposed to the Nether, most humans will chose not to see it. If they cannot ignore it they will rationalize it away. If they cannot rationalize it away they will forget they saw it. If they cannot forget they saw it? Well, then we have a problem. The Gloom is a term the Wyrdlings use to describe how difficult it is for mortals to understand or remember anything .Untethering
The longer they are exposed to the things there the more tenuous their grip on sanity becomes. Eventually it will break and they will be overwhelmed. When a mortal is overwhelmed by the Wyrd they become untethered, and lose their sanity. Some of those who are untethered may become wyrdlings themselves, often becoming Witches if they possess the talent. However, for a vast majority they will simply be driven mad.Localization
Areas with a particularly high concentration of Nether in any of its forms, have an adverse affect on the Murk. This is why people claim certain houses are haunted, or that they can see dryads near Stone Henge.
