Fairy

Created by GabeGrimoire
The Feywild is home to many fantastic peoples, including fairies. Fairies are a wee folk, much like their pixie and sprite friends. The first fairies spoke Elvish, Goblin, or Sylvan, and encounters with human visitors prompted many of them to learn Common as well. Fairies are magical, whimsical, and mischievous creatures with a strong sense of community. It's not uncommon for fairies to venture out from their communities to explore different environments and landmarks. Some such fairies end up stumbling into the Material Plane. In the Material Plane, fairies are creatures who often naturally attract the curiosity of those nearby. Sometimes however, this curiosity can lead to a fairy being poached.

Magical Creatures

Infused with the magic of the Feywild, most fairies look like tiny elves with insectile wings, but each fairy has a special physical characteristic that sets the fairy apart. For your fairy, roll on the Fey Characteristics table below or choose an option from it. You're also free to come up with your own characteristic if none of the suggestions below fit your character.   d8 | Fey Characteristic
1 | Your wings are like those of a bird.
2 | You have shimmering, multicolored skin.
3 | You have exceptionally large ears.
4 | A glittering mist constantly surrounds you.
5 | You have a small spectral horn on your forehead, like a little unicorn horn.
6 | Your legs are insectile.
7 | You smell like fresh brownies.
8 | A noticeable, harmless chill surrounds you.

Fairy Names

Fairies are typically named after beautiful things like flowers, gemstones or music, though it's not uncommon for a fairy to adopt a new name they heard spoken by visitors of the Feywild (or visitors of the plane they were born in).   Fairy Names: Amber, Amethyst, Briar, Chromite, Citrine, Daisy, Diamond, Emerald, Feldspar, Fluorite, Garnet, Glass, Harmony, Heliodor, Ivy, Jade, Jasper, Lily, Malachite, Melody, Nephrite, Neptunite, Opal, Orchid, Pearl, Peridot, Proteus, Quartz, Rose, Ruby, Sapphire, Sonata, Sunflower, Topaz, Turquoise, Viola, Vivianite, Zircon

Fairy Traits

Your character has the following traits.

Fairy

Ability Score Increase Dex +2; Wis +1 or Cha +1
Size Tiny
Speed 15 ft., Fly 30 ft.

Alignment. Choose one of the alignments approved by your GM. Typical Fairies tend towards Chaotic alignments.   Creature Type. You are a Fey.   Size. You are Tiny (about 2 feet tall), and weigh about 20-35 pounds.   Speed. Your land Speed is 15 feet.   Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan (Sun).   Life Span. Fairies mature around the age of 7, and live on average about 150 years.

Flight. You have slender wings built into your back that, when fully extended outwards, give you a wingspan equal to your height. All armor and back accessories must be tailored to accommodate your wings. You have a Fly Speed of 30 feet. To use this Speed, you can’t be Encumbered or wearing Medium or Heavy Armor.   Fey Ancestry. You have Advantage on Saving Throws you make to avoid or end the Charmed condition on yourself.   Fairy Lights. You know the Dancing Lights cantrip.   Petite Stature. Due to your tiny body, you cannot wield Heavy weapons, and you cannot wear Heavy Armor.   Shrink. You can touch an object that is sized for a Medium or Small creature and shrink it to an appropriate size for you. If it is a container, such as a backpack or coin purse, all objects inside shrink proportionately. You can have multiple objects shrunk at once, but once a shrunken object leaves your person or it’s container, or you die, it returns to its original size. If an object leaves your person and it doesn’t have room to return to its original size, it remains in its shrunken form until there is room to do so. Shrunken objects retain their original weight.   Wing Selection. A Fairy’s wings can vary in shape and size, with each different type determining which fey blessing a Fairy was born with. Choose one of the following sets of wings for your character:
  • Bee. You count as one Size larger when determining your Carrying Capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. Additionally, you gain Proficiency with three of the following Skills of your choice: Arcana, History, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Persuasion, and Religion.
  • Beetle. You count as one Size larger when determining your Carrying Capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. Additionally, you lose the Petite Stature trait, and you can use your Fly Speed while wearing Medium or Heavy Armor. If flying with Heavy Armor though, your Fly Speed is halved.
  • Butterfly. You know the Druidcraft cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the Faerie Fire spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the Enlarge/Reduce spell with this trait. Once you cast Faerie Fire or Enlarge/Reduce with this trait, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any Spell Slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your Spellcasting Ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this ancestry).
  • Dragonfly. Your base Fly Speed is increased to 40 feet. Furthermore while you are conscious, you are always under the effects of the Feather Fall spell; this is not considered a magical effect.
  • Moth. You have Darkvision with a range of 120 feet, and your base Fly Speed is increased to 35 feet. Furthermore, you have Proficiency with one of the following Skills of your choice: Investigation, Perception, or Stealth.
  • Thrips. Your base land Speed is increased to 30 feet. Additionally, when you take the Dash action, you can gain an additional 10 feet of movement.
