Way of the Four Elements

Revised from base 5e by GabeGrimoire
Monks of the Four Elements harness the elements themselves, bending them to their will, and using them as an extension of their body. Some members of this tradition dedicate themselves to a single element, but others weave the elements together.   Many Monks of this tradition tattoo their bodies with representations of their ki powers, commonly imagined as coiling dragons, but also as phoenixes, fish, plants, mountains, and cresting waves.

Elemental Harmony

3rd-level Way of the Four Elements feature   When you use your Uncanny Metabolism feature, you instead regain all expended Ki Points.

Disciple of the Elements

3rd-level Way of the Four Elements feature   You learn magical disciplines that harness the power of the four elements. A discipline typically requires you to spend Ki Points each time you use it.   You know the Elemental Attunement discipline and two other disciplines of your choice, from the list of Elemental Disciplines found below. You learn additional disciplines as you level. Whenever you learn a new discipline, you can also replace one discipline that you already know with a different one.   When you use one of your disciplines on your turn, you can make one Unarmed Strike as a Bonus Action.   Casting Elemental Spells. Some disciplines allow you to cast spells. To cast one of these spells, you use its casting time and other rules, but you don't need to provide verbal or material components for it. You are not considered to be casting a spell when you use one of these disciplines; meaning you do not benefit from things that care about you casting a spell, nor can your disciplines be targeted by Counterspell. If one of these spells’ damage would normally increase based on your level, it does not.

Elemental Disciplines

The elemental disciplines are presented in alphabetical order.   Chill of the Mountain. You can spend 1 Ki Point to cast the Ray of Frost spell, except it deals 1d10 damage instead of 1d8.   Elemental Attunement. As an Action, you briefly control elemental forces within 20 feet of you, causing one of the following effects of your choice:
  • Create a harmless, instantaneous sensory effect related to air, earth, fire, or water, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, a spray of light mist, or a gentle rumbling of stone.
  • Instantaneously light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
  • Chill or warm up to 1 pount of nonliving material for up to 1 hour.
  • Cause earth, fire, water, or mist that can fit within a 1-foot cube to shape itself into a crude form you designate for 1 minute.
Elemental Strike. When you attack with an Unarmed Strike or Monk Weapon, you can spend 1 Ki Point to change the Damage Type of that attack into one of the following: Acid, Bludgeoning, Cold, Fire, Force, or Lightning. If you change the Damage Type to something besides Force and deal damage to a creature, that creature takes an additional 1d4 damage from the attack.   Fangs of the Fire Snake. When you make an Unarmed Strike as part of the Attack action on your turn, you can spend 1 Ki Point to cause tendrils of flame to stretch out from your fists and feet. That attack’s reach increases to 20 feet, and on a hit deals an additional 1d10 Fire damage. If you deal damage to a creature with this attack, your next melee attack this turn deals an additional 1d4 Fire damage.   Fist of Four Thunders. You can spend 2 Ki Points to cast the Thunderwave spell.   Rush of the Gale Spirits. You can spend 2 Ki Points to cast the Gust of Wind spell.   Shape the Flowing Water. As an Action, you can spend 1 Ki Point to choose an area of ice or water no larger than 30 feet on a side within 120 feet of you. You can change water to ice within the area and vice versa, and you can reshape ice in the area in any manner you choose. You can raise or lower the ice’s elevation, create or fill in a trench, erect or flatten a wall, or form a pillar. The extent of any such changes can’t exceed half the area’s largest dimension. For example, if you affect a 30-foot square, you can create a pillar up to 15 feet high, raise or lower the square’s elevation by up to 15 feet, and so on. You can’t shape the ice to trap or injure a creature in the area.   Sphere of Elemental Balance. You can spend 2 Ki Points to cast the Chromatic Orb spell, but you can’t choose Poison for the orb’s type.   Sweeping Cinder Strike. You can spend 2 Ki Points to cast the Burning Hands spell.   Touch of the Storm. You can spend 1 Ki Point to cast the Shocking Grasp spell, except it deals 1d10 damage instead of 1d8.   Unbroken Air. You can create a blast of compressed air that strikes like a mighty fist. As an Action, you can spend 2 Ki Points and choose a creature within 60 feet of you. That creature must make a Strength Saving Throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 3d10 Bludgeoning damage, and you can push the creature up to 20 feet away from you and knock it Prone. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage, but nothing else.   Water Whip. As an Action, you can spend 2 Ki Points to create a whip of water that shoves and pulls a creature to unbalance it. A creature that you can see within 30 feet of you must make a Dexterity Saving Throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 3d10 Bludgeoning damage, and you can either knock it Prone or pull it up to 25 feet closer to you. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage, but nothing else.
