Baeron, Prince of Subjugation (BAY-ron)

(a.k.a. God of Evil, Demon of Domination)

Why should we serve lesser beings?   The arrival of a small craft that looked eerily similar to Peirolyth on Kundain just outside the city had already caused quite the hubbub among the populace of Bainshaebo, and the occupants only added to the growing mystery: Five new arrivals similar to the Four Queens worshipped by the people. Three of them were offered positions of service and honor in the pantheon as minor gods, but one turned his nose up at the offer, seeing not faithful supplicants but slaves waiting to be punished. His very existence already put himself at odds with not only the supreme deity Roth but her self-avowed adversary Phitdaitiarona. Initially he presented himself as a quiet sullen young man but once he had a chance to scope out the idyllic city cultivated by the Queens, he gleefully revealed his darker nature, proudly proclaiming himself an enemy of good.

Divine Domains

Baeron views mortals as little more than livestock meant to be caged and abused on a whim. He turned his nose up at the idea of serving the people in a noble manner and the mere act of his betrayal crushed his mother's soul. He seeks complete usurpation of the existing system of government and worship, putting him at odds with even Phitdaitiarona, the self-appointed Goddess of Wickedness. Not content with merely toying with mortals, he would happily see all of Bainshaebo-and perhaps even Earth-ground under his boot heel like bugs.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Currently at large having escaped in the same shuttle in which he arrived, his parting warning to Roth hinted at an even greater threat. Neither the Queens nor the Ronin Warriors have seen the last of him. He vows to return with others like him someday and wage cosmic war against the Queens themselves.

Personal history

Very little is known about the five new arrivals to begin with, only that he was the lone Male among them and is a son of Taezura. His father remains unknown but it is implied he is a son of Gigamatamur, a foe powerful enough to give even Roth pause.

Events of Spacequake

Arriving alongside Tanjanira, Janxilio, Maetalena, and Taezura, Baeron is seen in Ch. 11 "Challenge of Roth" in the company of the other gods in the Traedeskaton's central garden. He is quick to demonstrate his surly attitude but seems to quell his desires for the sake of his mother. While the Ronin Warriors are at Thananagreia confronting Roth about her true nature, Shannon O'Connor and her cousin Shainie find themselves unnerved by the Male Geod's attitude. Upon leaving the Citadel-Chapel, Baeron confronts the Ronin, calling them "lesser beings". Tanya Sanada goes off on him, completely unfazed by his supposed divine status. The situation is quickly diffused by Taezura and Baeron seemingly quiets down only to later pull the mask off and reveal to his mother he has no intention of settling into a quiet life of a minor god in Thanged's pantheon.
A panicked broadcast goes out along the banner network as Taezura is found dead in the Traedeskaton central garden, seemingly of a broken heart. Ryo realizes trouble is brewing and at the same time as the Ronin head out into the city, Baeron engages in a psychokinetic duel with Roth, proclaiming himself the "God of Evil".   Clearly no pushover, he manages to defy Roth's efforts to destroy him as she unleashes increasing amounts of power, the duel threatening to destroy surrounding buildings. Roth unlocks greater and greater thresholds, and just as she is about to crush the upstart Geod, Baeron manages to escape at the last second, passing Tanya as he flees and flashing her an unsettling look before he departs.
"Why should I play by their rules?" Taezura reached out to stroke his arm but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her close, peering down into her eyes. "No, no dear mother. I have seen all I need to know that it is enough. I think I am through carrying on with this charade of being the dutiful son!" Taezura's eyes widened in alarm as Baeron loomed over her, laughing.

  God Wars
Roth enlists the Ronin and their allies to assist in a rescue operation to evacuate any free Female Geods remaining on Geodo. Baeron returns as a major antagonist and places a psychic block on Kento, preventing him from transforming but not fully removing his Avatar. While on Geodo, Tanya becomes separated from her party and is cornered by the self-described God of Evil. He professes his desire to break her independent spirit, holding her completely at his mercy. At Eyurodin and Witheren's urging, Kento goes in search of her and overhears the taunt. The idea of Tanya being violated drives him into enough of a rage to break the psychic block and allows him to fully transform and confront the arrogant Geod.

"Ever since I saw you...your spirit, your heart...I knew I had to have you!" Baeron whispered as he circumvented Tanya.   "I'm...already...taken..." she replied, unease growing in the back of her mind. Even if she deployed her spectronium wings, Baeron would no doubt simply yank her back to the ground with a gesture.   "Well see that's the beauty of it all!" Baeron slid behind her and wrapped an arm around her waist, bringing his other arm close to her chest where he drummed his fingers over her chestplate. "I am a god! I do as I will...and take as I please!" Tanya tried to lean away from him as he brought his face close to her, whispering into her ear. "You have spent a lifetime guarding yourself, like a precious treasure in a vault, the princess in the sealed tower...you've built wall, upon wall, upon wall to shield yourself...even from those you love and whom love you in return....I plan to fix that."   If any other person had said such things to her, Tanya would have liquefied their nads, but he had stood his ground against Roth...even with her Spectronin Armor, she had no hope of fighting him on an equal level. Unknown to either of them, Kento slunk through the shadows of the arena, keeping out of sight as he approached. Even with his Avatar suppressed, he could still hear Baeron's comments. He had to grit his teeth to keep his mounting anger in check. "Don't delude yourself into thinking that Armor of yours will protect you from me...even though I could not beat that bitch Roth...I am still a god. I can peel that metal shell straight off your body molecule by molecule, atom by atom. I will take from you that which you guard most dear, even from those you love...and you won't be able to do a single thing to stop me..." Baeron moved his hand over Tanya's breastplate, walking his fingertips from the center of her chest to the base of her throat.   Tanya stared ahead, eyes wide in terror. She let out a soft strangled whine of despair as Baeron grasped the back of her neck and nuzzled her cheek. Far away in the shadows, Kento's eyes widened and he threw back his head, unable to hold his rage in any longer. Baeron released his grip and staggered away from Tanya, clamping his palms over his ears as an ear-splitting megaroar echoed through the arena. Tanya wasted no time fleeing, flying low over the ground to the opposite end of the arena. Kento didn't stop screaming and the sand strewn over the ground seemed to bounce and boil from his cries. He arched his back and splayed his fingers, his voice dropping in pitch as his body shook from intense strain. His body seemed at war with himself, in a state between human and Avatar. Ultimately his fury won out and his Armor shifted as he fully transformed in a matter of seconds.   Tanya hid behind a pillar, hand clamped over her mouth. She hadn't heard that sort of cry since back in the day, when Kento lapsed into his berserker state. Baeron looked nowhere in sight, apparently driven away by the megaroars. She clung to the shadows, trying to scoot away towards what looked like an exit. In his feral state Kento could just as easily attack friends as well as foes...   Without warning, something came up behind her and a strong hand clamped over her mouth. She squirmed and kicked, letting out a muffled scream. No! It's okay! It's okay! It's still me! I'm here! came the assuring broadcast. Tanya dared a glance out the corner of her eye and saw Kento behind her, his strong arms wrapped around her. Instead of slits his pupils looked rounded. He hadn't lapsed at all-quite the contrary, his mind felt clear as a bell. Tanya relaxed and he let go of her. We need to get out of here fast...the exit's this way... They crept towards the far end of the arena.   "How adorable!" The two whirled around upon hearing the arrogant voice ring out. "The Beast comes to protect his Beauty!" Baeron taunted and bobbed his head from side to side, swaggering out from behind a pillar. Kento pushed Tanya behind him and placed himself between her and the God of Evil.   "Kento! Watch out!" Tanya cried as Baeron held his palm out at Kento and unleashed a psychokinetic wave. Instead of forcing him to revert back or atomizing him, the blast sent Kento staggering. Baeron scowled and rolled his shoulder, unleashing another pulse. Kento grit his teeth and shielded his face with his arms as a powerful wind whipped about him. "Know your place, beast!" Baeron snarled and pushed his palm forward, striking Kento with an even greater blast.   Tanya! Get out of here! I'll buy you some time! Kento urged as he withstood Baeron's power, at most being forced back a step. Tanya scrambled to the side, ducking behind a pillar. The air whipped about the two much as it did during the duel between Baeron and Roth. Tanya shook her wrist and flung her boomerangs, but a sharp glance from Baeron sent them flying back in her direction. She had to hit the ground to avoid them as they dug into the walls and pillars. That short slip of attention allowed Kento to trudge forward a step. Baeron flicked his glance back at him and continued channeling immense force.   "You don't seem to know when to give up, do you, beast!" Baeron snorted as another force wake slammed into Kento. He faltered slightly but stayed on his feet. "Yield! I am a god! You have no chance against me!" Baeron's bravado seemed to falter as Kento inched towards him step by step. Crackling streams of orange light whipped about his back as additional force wakes slammed into the transformed Ronin Warrior, but Kento refused to back down. "I...said...YIELD!!!" Baeron boomed, his face contorting with fury. Kento skidded back a few inches briefly but continued stepping forward despite the immense force surging against him. "Why. Won't. You. YIEEEEEEELD!!" Baeron shrieked, his face still full of contempt.   "I...can't...I...won't....My heart...is...stronger than your hate..." Kento grunted with great effort as he approached slowly. "My love...is...stronger than your lust..." Baeron snarled petulantly as Kento came within but a few feet of him despite the weight of the universe bearing down upon him. "I will not back down...because my will....IS STRONGER THAN YOURS!!!" Kento howled and threw his arms to the side, the air seeming to snap as if he tore open a wall. He howled and lunged forward, closing the distance rapidly and placing his hands over Baeron's cheeks.   "Get your filthy hands OFF OF ME YOU-!" Baeron yelled, his face contorted in a furious sneer.   *KRAAAK!!* Kento wrenched Baeron's head to the side mightily, the loud wet crunch echoing through the air. Tanya's eyes widened in horror and she clamped both hands over her mouth, screaming into her palms. Kento withdrew his hands and moved back a step as Baeron remained standing. He half expected Baeron to turn and glare at him menacingly, but Baeron's eyes looked blank as his head remained snapped to the side, the skin over his neck looking bunched and crooked. The body shifted slightly before slumping forward, landing on the knees at first with the arms hanging limply before toppling forward onto the grounds. Kento stared down at the body, fingers splayed and body tensed as he kept expecting Baeron to spring back to his feet any moment, but no: the God of Evil remained quite dead. Kento blinked several times and looked about before turning his gaze to Tanya. She stumbled back a step, keeping both hands over her mouth.   Kento reached out towards her before pausing and turning his hands over, looking down at his palms sadly as he realized what he'd done. Tanya lowered her arms and her lips quivered before she broke into a dash towards him, throwing herself into his arms. She buried her face into the crook of his arm and began screaming, weeping uncontrollably. As horrified as she felt seeing what Kento did to Baeron, it terrified her far greater what Baeron had planned to do to her. Her cries came out like muffled whines from the back of her throat as she screamed and screamed and couldn't stop screaming, tears cascading down her cheeks. Kento wrapped his arms around her and patted her on the back, bringing his face close to her neck.   It's okay....It's allright...you can cry...let it all out...I'm here for you... He squeezed his eyes shut and stroked her hair as she hadn't stopped sobbing into his chest. She could feel him reverting to normal under her hands. They stayed there together and sank to the ground slowly, embracing in the arena under the dead sky.   "A...A...And now you know why I could not grant your request..." The two looked to the side sharply when they heard the voice and saw Roth approaching them. Kento held Tanya close, angling his shoulder as if to shield her. Of course this wasn't the real Roth: she was still engaged in cosmic battle against Gigamatamur. This was simply a reflection of her. Her form seemed to gleam with a pale glow as she walked past on the way to Baeron's body. "Think carefully upon what you wish for: what you deem to be a bane to yourself may prove a boon to those you hold dear," she stated, repeating the same warning she'd given him once before.   The two glared up at the Geod resentfully, knowing she viewed them as little more than a means to an end. Roth paused by the still corpse and cocked her head, regarding the slain Male briefly. "Oh...before you get any ideas..." The apparition looked over its shoulder down at the two. "I would vaporize you before you could even form the thought..." and with that parting warning, she walked away, stepping past Baeron's corpse before fading entirely.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Fulfilling Phitdaitiarona's warning, Baeron managed to give Roth somewhat of a divine black-eye by challenging her and escaping with his life. He had been able to hold his own up until the last minute largely in part because Roth had placed so much of her power behind numerous thresholds and unlocked more and more of them with each attack. She had never been forced to deploy her full power before, and for good reason given her daughter's actions and the already considerable structural damage dealt the Riders Citadel and the Traedeskaton.

Failures & Embarrassments

Even though Baeron proved himself a formidable foe against Roth, even his might could not withstand Roth's experience and strength. He believed just his voice alone could cow mortals, but civilians such as Shainie O'Connor viewed him as a jerk more than an intimidating figure.

Morality & Philosophy

Everything exists to be conquered, every person exists to be exploited. Baeron is the personification of every unsavoury desire the Queens preach against, his depravity is so great even Phitdaitiarona is appalled by him.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

According to Witheren, all Male Geods are driven by an overwhelming urge to dominate and destroy. Even though Taezura hoped her love alone could keep his desires in check, Baeron simply bided his time to scope out the opposition. He views any others as little more than insects, including the Major Gods.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Roth, Queen of Triumph
-Very Hostile. Baeron openly declared himself an enemy and sought to challenge the Goddess of Victory in a psychokinetic duel. Even though he managed to thwart her initial attempts to crush him, he ultimately had to flee before she unleashed her full might.
Witheren, Maiden of Blood
-Very Hostile. Normally Witheren would be inclined to bisect anyone cheeky enough to mouth off in her presence, but she restrained herself out of respect for Taezura. Even though Baeron escapes, Witheren seems to view him as an inconvenience more than a true threat.
Eyurodin, Lady of Flames
-Indifferent. The Goddess of the Forge views the upstart as little more than a nuisance, knowing he is simply the herald of a far greater threat. She feels he will meet his end not at the hands of another Geod, but at the hands of a mortal.
Ritho, the Morning Mother
-Hostile. Ritho carries the scars of unleashing her fury still and has devoted herself to serving the people. That Baeron has such a low opinion of mortals incenses her. Even though he did not directly kill his mother, she holds him responsible.
Phitdaitiarona, Empress of Night
-Very Hostile. The Goddess of Wickedness views him as unwanted competition, having already declared herself an adversary to Roth. Since she enjoys being the center of attention and source of all woes to the people, she views him as intruding on her sphere.
Ronin Warriors
-Hostile. Initially they didn't know what to think of him, suspecting perhaps Roth simply feared him because he threatened to upset the apple cart. After the death of Taezura and the duel with Roth, they realize he is a far greater threat than they anticipated. Baeron seems to have developed an unsavoury interest in Tanya of the Typhoon because of her attitude.
Minor Gods
-Hostile Janxilo and Tanjanira expressed misgivings about bringing him with them in the first place but did so out of fear for Taezura's well-being. Ultimately their fears proved well-founded as Baeron displayed his true nature quickly despite his mother's wishes.

Family Ties

Taezura, the Martyred Mother
-Mother-Deceased. As much as she wanted to believe that her love and soft words could keep his nature in check, the realization that Baeron simply played along as the dutiful son destroyed her spirit and she completely lost the will to live.
Gigamatamur
-Father? An unknown being powerful enough to concern Roth and the other Major Gods. Supposed architect of the God Strife.

Mannerisms

Very surly and supercilious. Literally looks down his nose at anyone else.

Speech

His voice drips with arrogance and psychotic glee, tends to yell shrilly when excited or angry. Think Michael Donovan's (Cye/Sage's VA) Red Torrent voice.
The young man's black irises and blue-gray pupils sported a dangerous glint that made Shannon's skin crawl. "He looks kind of hunky, wouldn't you say?" Normally Shannon would roll her eyes or make a snide remark given Shainie was supposed to be married to Danae's older brother, Azuro, but the young man's demeanor set off all kinds of alarms in Shannon's senses.
— Spacequake Ch. 11
"You are no doubt aware of our new arrivals...and the Male among them..."   "I am."   "Then you know as well as I what his presence means for us all. As much as we have butted heads over the eons, I will not see this world and its people jeopardized by the likes of him."   "If he gets out of line, rest assured, I will deal with him." Roth stated calmly.   "'Gets out of line'? You should destroy him now! Before he has a chance to harm anyone!"

Quotes & Catchphrases
"Why should we serve lesser beings! If anything, they should serve us!"
"Lesser beings such as yourselves should know better than to talk back to a god"
"You position yourself as a god of good amongst this rabble? Then I shall be the God of Evil!"
Ryo made a face and glanced to the side when he heard a voice speak up and he spotted a young man with dark orange hair slouching against the slope of the monument. The young man opened his eyes and glared at the departing Ronin with black irises and blue-gray pupils. This had to be Baeron, the male Geod that had Phitdaitiarona so alarmed. "You should apologize for your impertinence..." he sneered.   "APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT!??" Tanya shrieked and whirled around, fists clenched.
— Spacequake Ch. 11
All of a sudden it seemed like Baeron peeled into two, breaking away from the fight while his copy remained behind to be crushed by the force wake. He dashed towards the Ronin like a blurred streak. He rushed past and he briefly locked gazes with Tanya. Her eyes followed him, her brow furrowing in confusion. She felt the most unnerving sensation: as if he'd flipped her open like a book and skimmed through the pages.
