Demonic Bloodline

Cambion are born to human parents, and in the broadest possible sense, they still look human. However, their demonic heritage has left a clear imprint on their appearance. Their canine teeth are often sharply pointed, their tongues forked, and their eyes and hair flecked with unusual colors—red, silver, or gold—along with the normal human shades. Cambion frequently have small vestigial horns sprouting from their foreheads. Cambion typically have two or three of these inhuman traits and go to great lengths to hide them; whether filing down horns or teeth, shadowing their faces in hoods or cowls to hide their scintillating eyes or hair, or even refusing to speak or eat in the company of others to avoid notice of their snake-like tongues.
Cambion are often arrogant, domineering, and demanding due to the ease with which they can manipulate others. Nonetheless, all cambion who survive to adulthood learn to keep a low profile and hide the more unusual of their physical traits. This translates to a meticulous obsession with appearance and a near constant paranoia of being found out, hunted down, and hung, drowned, or worse. Needless to say, cambion form personal relationships with great difficulty, and trust does not come easily to them. Though once that trust is earned, the cambion is a firm friend or ally for life.
Being always fearful of discovery, cambion know that they have to make their own way in the world and that they have to be strong to survive. Often they grow up to be swindlers, thieves, or crime lords, putting their innate skills to nefarious use. Others blend in as best they can, suppressing their demonic nature, and living lives as close to normal as can be expected.

Cambion Traits

Cambion share certain racial traits as a result of their demonic descent.

Ability Score Increase

One ability score of your choice increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.

Darkvision

Thanks to your infernal heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Devilish Charm

You know the friends cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the charm person spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the suggestion spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Hellish Resistance

You have resistance to fire damage.

People born with my Ability are rare, perhaps no more than one in several hundred million, a few each human generation. Throughout history my race has been feared and hunted. At the first sign of our superiority we are branded as witches or demons and destroyed by the mindless mobs. We cut our teeth while learning to hide the brilliant flame of our difference.

Age

Cambion mature at the same rate as humans but live a few years longer, up to 120 years.

Alignment

Cambion might not have an innate tendency toward evil, but many of them end up there. Evil or not, an independent nature inclines many cambion toward a chaotic alignment.

Size

Cambion are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Abyssal. You don't know how you know Abyssal and you aren't aware you know it until the first time you encounter it.
