Feykin

Of Two Worlds

Feykin are the vestige of a long dead woodland race. In eras past, these progenitors haunted all the woods of the lands, and were known to beguile travelers and steal infants from their cribs, leaving fey changelings in their place. In height, feykin are on par with pure-blooded humans, ranging from 5 feet to over 6 feet tall, though always slender; sometimes, unnaturally so. Feykin weigh from 100 to 180 pounds, with men only slightly taller and heavier than women. Feykin coloration is a pallid, sickly hue with undertones of blue or green. Their features are fine and tend toward the vaguely feline. Their eyes are overly large, with striking colors of light green and blue. Their hair color ranges from vivid red to a black so deep, it almost appears blue.   Feykin feel the pull of the natural world strongly. They avoid large cities and settlements of people, instead preferring the solitude of nature. They tend toward extreme eccentricity, with odd, dark senses of humor. They may develop unusual habits and obsessions, such as startling people as a form of greeting, only eating at midnight, always sleeping outside, or never speaking on nights of the full moon. A feykin can be a loyal—though never reliable—ally to one who earns their friendship. Their whims follow an incomprehensible logic that can be infuriating to those who know them.   Feykin generally blend well in human society, if they choose to. Their features are never other-worldly enough to be cause for concern, but their personalities frequently make getting along with others an impossibility. As a result, most feykin are hermits and live on the edges of civilization. But many suffer an intense wanderlust and can be found as perpetual travellers, hitching along caravans, circuses, or expeditions to explore the far parts of the world.

Feykin Traits

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Mask of the Wild

You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by dim light, foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.

I was not wholly prepared to deny that human flesh may now and then, once perhaps in ten million cases, be the veil of powers which seem magical to us; powers which, so far from proceeding from the heights and leading men thither, are in reality survivals from the depths of being.   This folk dwells in remote and secret places, and celebrates foul mysteries on savage hills. Nothing have they in common with men save the face, and the customs of humanity are wholly strange to them.
— The Black Seal, Arthur Machen
Age
Feykin mature at the same rate humans do and reach adulthood around the age of 20. They live much longer than humans, however, often exceeding 180 years. This can prove difficult to hide from others and often results in the feykin abandoning their lives and starting over elsewhere in order to keep their inhuman nature secret.
Alignment
Feykin share the chaotic bent of their fey heritage. They value both personal freedom and creative expression, demonstrating neither love of leaders nor desire for followers. They chafe at rules, resent others’ demands, and sometimes prove unreliable, or at least unpredictable.
Size
Feykin are about the same size as humans, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan. You don't know how you know Sylvan and aren't aware you know it until the first time you encounter it.
