caligni

Also referred to commonly as "dark folk" by surface dwellers, caligni are an underground civilization of humanoids with pale skin and white eyes that are harmed by sunlight. They conceal their bodies in dark clothing and avoid the surface during daytime at all costs. All caligni experience a destructive release of light and force upon their death, although the intensity and brilliance vary depending on the individual's position in caligni society's strict birth caste system. Lower caste caligni tend to be smaller than the higher castes.

Although many caligni are rumored to exist in further reaches underground, the rare sighting of these dark folk in Absalom's Undercity is not unheard of and rather troubling whenever discovered.
