This massive insect lumbers ominously, waving a spade-tipped head horn and two recurved pronotal horns in a display that could easily topple a house. Often utilized by duergar in the caverns of the Darklands, surface-dwelling obsidian beetles can be domesticated by particularly powerful spellcasters and monster wranglers to serve as both beasts of burden and tools of excavation. They lack the acidic sprays of some of their larger cousins and instead use the leverage of their horns to flip large objects into the air. Seige engineers have likened this motion to a trebuchet, but the beetles seem incapable of controlling the direction of objects flung about.
