snurtle

An odd amalgam of tortoise and anaconda, a snurtle can extend and retract its 20 foot neck or tail quickly from its shell. Additionally, it can, instantaneously dissolve any of its limbs into a thin green smoke, retreating the portion back into its shell or transposed with another part of its body that disappears simultaneously. A snurtle typically uses this dissolution to quickly swap the direction of its head and tail sections.

A snurtle is often confused with the snortle, a bouyant sea turtle-like creature with a spiraled shell, and a znartle, a fast-moving mollusk the size of a small dog.
