The Lost Relic Plot in Agia | World Anvil

The Lost Relic

Introduction

Trouble is brewing in Aistana. It can be felt everywhere. On the streets. In the churches. Even at the king's court. No one is quite sure what is happening, but rumours have it that Estain is collecting a lot of lost relics from the Goddess of Light, Irath, and keeping all of them to themselves.
The current Yppwenlas is from Estain claims the relics are shared with other nations. But trust is hard to come by, especially when considering the historical tension between Estain and Aistana.

You aren't really interested in these quarrels of the high and mighty, but money is needed to feed your poor family. You have noticed your youngest sister's health have deteriorated recently, and the herbalist's medicin can be expensive.

The church is looking for people willing to search for religious relics, and the pay would be high, if you managed to procure such a thing. Therefore, you travelled to Diundad da Luzven, the City of Light in Aistana, where the Yppwenlas' seat of power is. There are plenty of people who showed up, hearing about the lost relic bounty.

Part 1 | The Interview

You waited hours to get an audience with the Treasurer of Luzven. From her dialect you know she is from Estain too. With your current knowledge you know that Estain is a country that wants relics for this new Holy City they are building, despite Luzven already being the Holy City. You wonder if she wants the relics for Estain or Aistana.

"So, you seek to find a lost relic. Why are you interested in finding a relic for the Church of Irath?" She asks.

"My family is ill, and I need the money to support them."
"I am doing it to show my dedication to Irath."

Dedication

Reveal
"I am happy you are dedicated to our Goddess, more than the money. We have information about one relic. With your dedication you should be able to locate it."

Wait for more information from the Treasurer.

Honesty

Reveal
"So far everyone who have been here, are more interested in the money rather than contributing to the Goddess. This is so boring, and I do not see why you would be ideal for this."
Roll a 1d6 for persuasion
d1-d2
"Go home!" She says disappointed.

You return home with disappointing news.

d3-d4
"I am desperate for the money! Please, my little sister needs help."
She takes pity on you, and answer with a dismissive tone:
"Very well. Seek out Mother Yania for more information"

Go seek out Mother Yania

d5-d6
"My family means the world to me, and I am willing to go to extreme lengths to help them." You say, and she nods.

Mother's Information

Reveal
You have located where Mother Yania is, and approach her.
"Hail Thee, I am one of the candidates searching for the relics. I was told to seek you for more information." You explain.
"Yes, that is correct. Tell me, which country you are from?" She asks. You notice her dialect is Aistanian.

Aistana, the largest country in Agia.
"Ah I thought so. Return the relic to me, and I will pay you more than the Treasurer. There are no reasons why Estain needs more relics than the one true holy city, that is here in Aistana. Relics belong in Luzven. I have a little proposition for you if you are willing to listen."

Accept
Decline

Estain, the second largest country in Agia.
"Well how dull. I cannot help you!" she says condescendingly.
Your journey ends here, knowing the Treasurer nor Mother Yania do not care about you.

Decline the Opportunity

Reveal
"I do not want to get involved in church politics. I was hired to find the relics for the Treasurer. So, I must decline your offer!" You say.
"Ahh. That is too bad. Well, there will be other opportunities for Aistana. You are welcome to change your mind."
She still tells you the information with slight discontent.:

I helped Mother Yania, accepted her request to get the ring, convinced the peasants to tell me about the witch, then climbed through the window and stole the ring.   I liked how the story interwove with current events, will definitely come back to test another route.
