The vast majority of the Abyss is a neverending expanse of torture and manslaughter. However, there is an approximate sixty-acre estate in which a semblance of normalcy can be found: Ka'anal. Compared to the infinite expanse of the Abyss, finding Ka'anal is a task many have considered the ultimate goal of Abyssian life, and is as, if not significantly more difficult, than finding a needle in a haystack. The colony of Ka'anal is responsible for the maintenance and support of demonic summons throughout Agnesia. It is here where demons are summoned to Agnesia for various tasks for various masters for payment. Any demon under the employ of the Ka'anal Summoning Colony can be employed for any summoning position, form, or job, and their pay depends on a combination of customer satisfaction and overall success rates. Demons employed by Ka'anal, like any other interdimensional workers, are paid using Ether.
Ka'anal, unlike the rest of the Abyss, does not torture those doomed to spend eternity in the hellscape: instead, they are utilized as slaves that can win their freedom (or demonic ascension) through service. Ka'anal is self-sufficient, so slaves are due to tend farms, act as custodians, and do general maintenance for the colony. These indentured servants are sometimes referred to as Kanalites. Kanalites typically ascend to demonhood once their freedom is given, but others elect to return to Agnesia for reincarnation.
There is an enforced peace kept on the grounds of Ka'anal with on-site residencies for demons and tortured souls to "sow their roots" and start their afterlife families safe from the dangers of the Abyss. Individuals that violate the rules of Ka'anal are exiled and forced to roam throughout the Abyss for the rest of eternity without employment. The founder of Ka'anal has been lost to eternal history, but many claim that a powerful druid created the colony upon arrival through magical means.
