Duchy of Faysea

A former ally of the Mallowhurst Empire until recently. A coup d'etat recently ousted the Empire sympathetic Ousi clan, backed by the military and upper crust. A young, charismatic nobleman named Sylvar Paris has managed to become the new Duke. As a result, Paris has been backstabbing those who helped him claim his new advantageous position, and purging all those who are not loyal to the new Duchy. Paris is anti-empire to the core, and refuses all dealings with Mallowhurst, leading to the Faysean economy to struggle without the Empire’s buyers. Many citizens of this duchy are polarized as to Pro-Ousi or Pro-Paris, Pro-Empire or Anti-Empire respectively. Much knowledge of Faysean history has been lost, following the razing of the “Faysea Annals” at the Library of Sleetvault (Fairmarsh). This has been theorized to be another ploy by Parisian forces to discount any Ousian claims to the title of Duke. Stability is at an all-time low, almost on the brink of civil war. For those creative enough, ensuring stability in Paris’ claim could lead to a fortune, and political power under the new regime. Or, backing the cause of disgruntled Ouisian supporters could catapult one into a position of power. Faysea is also home to a great many mines, having exhausted the region’s store of the rare metal Yttrium, a hot commodity with a market in Fairmarsh for research.
