Jers Pestic Disease

Transmission & Vectors

The disease is mainly spread from physical contact, open wounds or otherwise touching fluids of an infected person.

Causes

The cause of the disease is unknown, as medical research in Agnesia is primarily concerned with magical illnesses, not physical illnesses. Many researchers have found that it tends to spread where there is not a clean living space, such as farms, battlefields, or otherwise poorer areas.

Symptoms

Coughing, sneezing, large black lymph nodes (large black swelled spots), and in many cases death or paralysis.

Treatment

No known treatment, many people have their own natural remedies which have varying degrees of success.

History

The disease was first reported in a small village outside of the capital of the Green Horde. Today, most outbreaks of the disease happen in war zones where many people are injured or otherwise unclean. Due to this, the death rate of the disease is remarkably high. Many battles in the ongoing war of the Green Horde and the Principality of Merriton have been outbreak sites for the disease, some even counting deaths as high as 5,000 and calling for both sides to retreat.

Cultural Reception

Due to the nature of the disease and the current war, many conspiracies have been made tying the disease to creation by a group's adversary or being used to control a populace, some people even go so far as saying the disease isn't real and the death statistics have been made up. A Maester of Medicine at the University of Bulatania commented on this matter:
Should we keep ignoring this disease, it could have disastrous effects, already we are seeing cases outside areas of conflict.
