The Tayler Sphere

The Tayler Sphere is a large, brown, roughly spherical object currently at rest in the mountains of the Free Holds. After an event in the year 2049 when the Sphere rolled into a village crushing houses and killing an estimated 6 people, local researchers and leaders took an interest in figuring out the nature of the Sphere.    The Sphere tends to roll away from people who go toward it, often gaining immense speeds as people chase after it. One reported case was in the year 2504 when the Sphere rolled into a village. The townsfolk, having either not heard of or otherwise not studied the Sphere did not know the exact nature of it, but many had heard stories of it. One such person, a farmer on the outskirts of the village was the first to see the Sphere and memorably screamed (with a voice crack) "THE BROWN BALL!!!!" while chasing after it. Of course, the Sphere is repelled by people, so the farmer chased in vain as the sphere picked up speed directly into the village. The repelling from the people in the village was too little to counteract the speed the Sphere gained, and multiple buildings were crushed before the sphere retreated into the mountains.    Recently, local villages have set up gates and fences with signs warning travelers not to go near where the Sphere currently rests, a small plateau near the top of a mountain. Should a person approach the ball, it will move away from its resting spot, leave the plateau and gain speed directly toward towns and farms at the base of the mountain.   The Sphere is named after Jero Tayler, one of the earliest prominent researchers on the Sphere who wrote a text depicting the nature of the ball.
