This world uses our real-world Earth geography, but the standard fantasy races and magic, and an alternate timeline.   Millennia ago, before written history, the expanding Asharan Desert swallowed the rivers and lakes of the African steppes, forcing the native human tribes to migrate into the lands of the River Elves, along the banks of the great river El-Ihn.   The nation and culture that resulted from this melding has existed for thousands of years, one of the great nations, producing monuments, lore, and heroes of legendary status, known throughout the civilized world. They have remained unconquered, surrounded by natural barriers and defended powerful magic and armies, but they have not remained untouched.
