Garuda, the Caelian

Empress of Birds, Messenger of the Winds, Queen of Storms

Garuda is the goddess of Air, Birds, Devotion, Ixal, Loyalty, and Speed. She is one of the more unusual of the 6 prime elemental deities in that her disposition has changed dramatically over the millennia. Once a kind-hearted deity, more whimsical a free-spirited, she was slowly twisted when her primary followers, the Ixal, under constant threat became slowly more war-like and militarised. It is not uncommon for deities' dispositions to be slowly changed by their worshippers, taking on aspects of their current sensibilities. For some, her good nature was tainted by millennia of battle and feasting on the energies of the fallen that were required to heal herself. However, some suspect that there was also more nefarious reasons that the once care-free wind goddess turned quite so violent, although none of these speculations has much grounding in evidence.
Garuda takes on the visage of a green-tinted bird-like creature with claws, talons and wings. She has often taken on the form of other bird-type creatures like the Zu.
The Ixal follow Garuda closely due to her ties to their people, as her past actions have saved them countless times. Bird-like races, those who fly as well as those who wish to wreak their wrath onto others also follow Garuda.
