Deisos
Green and exuberant
Deisos is a volatile mix of naturalism and aristocracy. Their land is constantly changing through careful, intimate development that respects the natural ecology, but their government is constantly changing through vicious feuds, intrigue, and might-making-right. Living in Deisos involves constant rolls of the dice: it can be pleasant or miserable, and one can become the other in a single day.Under Ossifrey's skin
Even though it's a relatively small country, Deisos made a rival of Ossifrey centuries ago, and has escaped retribution ever since. Deisos is trying to starve Ossifrey out of the Shadowfell, and pleads for Aphygia to help with this task. Deisos sees what happens when Ossifrey claims new territory: natural landmarks are torn down, existing governments are clumsily stitched into Ossifrey's hierarchy, and many local gods are stamped out. Armies from Deisos often rush to the aid of unaligned Shadowfell communities, although they might be planning a takeover themselves--it depends on who owns that particular army. Deisos has remarkable success whenever it tangles with Ossifrey. Its stony rival's military tactics don't translate well to the Shadowfell: the land is unkind to large defensive structures, and every time Ossifrey tries to establish an impassible front line, the shadows eventually part to reveal a weakness. Ossifrey isn't used to the other side being the "invincible" one.Demographics
Deisos is a mostly isolated country, primarily human and halfling, very slowly building a trade network with Ossifrey. It features a large noble class, many workers and contracted artists, and a surprising lack of academics. The large country goes mostly unnoticed by monsters, but it's still dangerous to travel there.
