Vagabond {Wood Elves}

Far-Walking-Hunter gave literal breath to the Vagabond in the form of the ever-shifting fey winds. Airy in nature, swift and mercurial, they devote themselves to the preservation of the natural world as something larger and more enduring than any individual or artificial construct. Prefering the wilderness, and especially the towering trees of eastern Aiaor, they became known as 'wood elves.' They left the Regime when faced with the fundamental difference in philosophy between their reverence for nature and the high elves devotion to ordered, urban environments.   Wood elves are more isolationist than their high elf kindred, preferring not to entrust their legacy to other races, whom they perceive as short-sighted and untrustworthy. They live in extended clans, collectives of inter-related families led by councils of elders, each clan acting as custodian of a wild territory. Once, a clan would encompass dozens of families, thousands of elves, and protect many hundreds of acres of woodland or moor. The clans are reduced and scattered now, rarely numbering more than a few hundred individuals watching over a dwindling protectorate of a hundred acres or less.   Wood elves often have a pattern of freckle-like markings to their skin, reminiscent of lichen on a tree. Many wood elves favour longer hair, with braids a necessary concession for scouts, hunters and others who spend much time in the wilds.
