Dean of Order Augusta le Mans, PhD
"You may refer to me as Dean le Mans, Dr. le Mans, Professor le Mans, or Augusta, just please do not call me Miss or Ma'am." – Dr. le Mans each syllabus day
Augusta le Mans is said to have quite literally been born to be an archaeologist. Born earlier than expected on the Temple of the Sun, North Field dig site in
Hazar, some of her earliest baby photos are on-site with her mother, Dr. Ines le Mans, held to her chest in a wrap while the older Dr. le Mans reclines in a cot and chips away at hardened dirt clinging to a large pottery sherd. Some have theorized that it was the unique location and circumstances of her birth which lead to the untutored ease with which Augusta has always handled magic, but Ines would insist that that is not the case; she often noted how interesting it is that the capability of young women is frequently attributed to luck rather than intelligence and hard work.
Now one of the youngest people to ever be appointed as Dean of one of Bruxaria's colleges, Augusta is able to spend less time teaching than she did as a professor, and more time working with graduate students in the lab, examining and preserving artifacts found on the digs she organizes each summer. While most of the digs she supervises are in northern-central Mahid, she is always more than happy to connect students with other archaeologists and spiritualists in the field who work in areas more to their interest. She still often teaches one or two classes each year for undergraduate students, usually advanced courses in
spiritualism or labs focused on the handling and preservation of various types of artifacts.
Mental characteristics
Augusta is an alumna of Bruxaria, having completed her doctorate there in AE 701. Her dissertation was titled
Shedding Skin: An Osteological and Spiritualistic Analysis of Non-Adult Skeletal Materials From the Early- and Mid-Lizdah Era in the Northern Mahidian Highlands, studying the first appearance of the
Reszmeni people in that region and how that biocultural shift affected the health outcomes of children.
During the process of working on her dissertation, she also helped research and develop Bruxaria's
Institutional Review Board's ethical standards for the use of spiritualism when communing with the spirits of children.
She's a very interesting character that I'd love to read more about (although that much information is a lot for an NPC). Unfortunately, English is not my native language, so the joke didn't come across, but it was a very pleasant read!
Thank you! The joke isn't actually dependent on knowing English, just on knowing some very specific bits of geography ;)
