Light Crossbow
A crossbow is a two-handed ranged weapon that utilizes a mechanical latch rather than the soldiers arm strength to maintain tension. This allowed the user to focus more on precision with aiming than exertion in maintaining the bows draw, and gradually allowed stronger and stronger pull weights that enabled crossbows to punch through heavier metal armors like plate.
Light crossbows have a metal band called a stirrup that the user places their foot into, holding it firmly to the ground. Then by either grasping the string, or using a pull the prod is cocked and fixed in place. A shorter arrow called a bolt can then be loaded, and the crossbow is ready.
Heavier Crossbows require a mechanical advantage like a crank to overcome the stiffer prod, and as a result have a greater range as well as impact force.
