Captain Meara Baringale (a.k.a. Cat)

Meara Baringale is the captain of a carvel named The Sailfin's Grace which hails from Kuststêd. Born and raised in the seaport, she developed an affinity for the ocean at an early age and took a berth on a fishing trawler at the age of 18. Having spent over 120 years at sea, there are few ports Meara hasn't visited in Oreron making her a valuable asset for shipping companies and anyone looking to travel Ailosod by sea. For the past 30 years, Meara has kept a regular route between Kuststêd and the islands of the Southern Reaches.

Appearance

Meara stands 4'7" and and carries her 213 lbs well on her stocky, dwarvish frame. Prefering utility over fashion, the captain wears simple, but well made clothing including a linen blouse, leather trousers, and knee-high leather boots. Over her clothes, Meara typically wears a deep blue coat which hangs to just below her knee. Her long, red hair is kept in nine tight braids; each capped with a silver barb. This particular hairstyle has earned her the nickname "Cat" due to its resemblance to a cat-o-nine-tails.

Mannerisms

Some find Meara a bit crass for polite society even when on her best behavior. It seems some habits are hard to break and very few protocols have value at sea. She isn't quick to befriend people and often seems distant or even harsh to those she is unfaimilar with, but those she knows well tell a very different story. Meara is highly protective of her crew both on and off the ship. 

Motivations

Meara seeks nothing more in life than to sail the seas as she wishes. Now that she has her own ship and no longer answers to any of the shipping, fishing, or other nautical companies, this has become a much easier dream to achieve. So long as she has enough coin for maintenance, supplies, and wages, Meara wants for nothing.
