Scintillant Harpy
At dusk, she rises from her nest to prepare for her nightly hunt. Raising her head and strecthing out her wings, she catches the last rays of the sun in her crystalline plummage projecting dazzling rays of colorful light across the rock face. She steps to the edge and allows herself to fall foward; her wings catching the updraft and carrying her aloft.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The creature is similar in appearance to other types harpies, being a mix of large raptor (vulture, eagle, etc) and humanoid woman, but has a unique crystalline plumage. These unusal feathers range in color from quartz-like (clear or cloudy) to a rich, amethyst purple.
Ecology and Habitats
The scintillant harpy prefers to nest in the high cliffs of the Shatterforge Mountains where the terrain provides natural protection from other predators along with an ample food supply.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The scintillant harpy is omnivorous but has a preference for meat from rabbits, goats, other mammals found in the mountains. Depending on her prey, she will employ either luring techniques or a direct swooping technique. To lure prey, the harpy may use her feathers to dazzle or blind creatures; allowing her to get within range to strike. Alternately, she may use her voice to mimic mating calls, the sound of young or prey animals while lying in ambush.
