The Vanguard of Afrid

The Vanguard of Afrid, the Goddess of Life, more commonly known as Vanguard, is a the only warforged in all of Aither to be granted true life without a soul of a prior being taking over his body. Unlike many of the modern warforged, who are simply just constructs, Vanguard was given life by the Goddess Afrid, with the intention that he would embody the power that she could have in the Material Realm, without being there herself. After his adventures with the adventuring party (The Everhaust Hunters) Vanguard now exists as a guardian of Concidorne, the gnomish city in which he was found.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

A large warforged plated in steel, with golden detailing. Although menacing, there is an almost benevolent look about him. Most of the time, Vanguard wields a war hammer, and often carries a shield in his other hand, appearing like the divine warrior that Afrid had always intended him to be.

Personal history

Vanguard was gifted life by Afrid after the first of the Warforged were created by the Bharmor, the First Dwarf, and the God of the Forge. The Warforged were originally built as a gift to the dwarves by their god in order to allow them to better build the great underground cities that they now reside in. Vanguard had a will of his own; however, and decided that, using the magic gifted to him by Afrid, he would guide the souls of those who did not deserve death into the bodies of the Warforged. Vanguard only managed to give several dozen souls Warforged bodies, but was forced to flee the dwarves and was placed in stasis underneath the area that would become Concidorne.
A couple of millennia past, and Vanguard was eventually found by a group of adventures, joining them in the liberation of his people from the halfling mage, Nidri Wilver, who had taken control of them. After this, Vanguard decided to join these adventures, later establishing the Everhaust Hunters.
After the Hunters disbanded, Vanguard returned to Concidorne, aiding in the protection and integration of his people into the city of Concidorne, alongside the gnomes and halfling that resided there.
