The Vestigial Spine

A vast mountain range that spans for hundreds of miles, this natural features splits the political landscape of Akarious into the Eastern regions with is tightly controlled by Orathis and the Chatarunga. The west has strong rebellious tendencies, keeping with the tradition of the native peoples who were pushed out and concentrated on the smaller part of the continent. Although he has tried, Orathis has struggled to take control of the whole continent, partly due to the other natural obstacles in the way that makes transporting troops difficult, such as the Grass Sea and Narghobi Desert. Also, there have been more pressing matters, such as stabilizing the various planar portals, and building civilization back to the standard which would honor his mother. Over the centuries, there has been a natural equilibrium of power established between Orathis's domain in the west and the free lands in the east.
