Mayfalls Keep
A mountainous land with many temples and creatures. Old home to the Storm Giants and now a wasteland of pain and suffering.
Many rituals have been done here over the years and it is said that the dark powers held here in the walls could make anyone go mad.
A difficult land to traverse without equipment or a guide there are a few elder priests who have taken to the land and made a home for themselves within the mountains.
Geography
The mountains were named after a temple build upon their highest peaks. The range lay mostly north, but also had a small eastern section, which was separated from the mainline of the Mountains by the Gap of Hyhill. Even at the southern latitude of Aslana Deserts and Erwick, the White Mountains bore snow even in summer, suggesting they were extremely high. The range had no passes. The Paths of the Damned lay beneath it, but only the most courageous or foolhardy ever ventured that route. Mayfalls Keep formed the North-Eastern boundary of Erwick and the Western boundary of Hyhill except in their northmost part, where Hyhill's province of Star Peaks lay to the East of the mountains.
Because of their always bearing snow at their highest peaks, Mayfalls Keep is at least 4800 meters (16'000 feet) above sea level, with occasional peaks probably in excess of 5500 meters.
Its notable peaks included The Zenith and The Apex. Between these two lay the Glade of Darkness, the entrance to the Paths of the Dead.
At the centre, the Human settlement of Frostgrove was carved into the Hill of Giants beneath The Zenith. The first City of Mayfalls, Windstone, now also known as it's capital sits atop the Apex.
Several rivers raised in the Mountains, among them lies the Ria Stream; and, on the south side, Lake Nordur, Austur and Sudur, which all entered the Bay of Zynmir at Erwick.
Many Creatures are said to be located here, hunted mostly by Hexers the ones you can expect to see are;
- Orcs
- Rocs
- Werebear
- Revenants
- Giant Vultures
- Tarrasque
- Yetis
History
The natives to the Mountains were the Giants but soon after there were also Elves & Drow, who settled the region after the Exile. The only remnant of their presence in these mountains were their statues, called The Hardened Ones. Sometime thereafter, evil men related to the Eye of Ar-Seid drove the Elves out. Some of these men swore allegiance to Ar-Seid, but betrayed him when he required their help, and were cursed into Mindless Beasts.
It was during the War Of Sky And Earth or Loftstríð however that the region was truly hurt. Many Giants and Dragons fell to the mountains forming the very pathways and chasms that made Mayfalls Keep the dangerous region it now is.
Once the giants and Dragons disappeared however the humans and elves created many settlements even taking the Giant City of Windstone for their own and making the Capital of Mayfalls. The dwarves however didn't like this.
Following the War of Ar-Seid some surviving Nightwalkers fled south and attempted to settle in the White Mountains. These Nightwalkers plagued the parts of Erwick and Aslana near the mountains. On a fateful night they attacked Windstone, killing the Elven King Zlemir and he now roams the lands alongside them as a Cursed Beast.
The Elves called for aid but the Dwarves refused as they took Windstone with no regard for the Giants or the Dwarves history with the Capital. Now all Dwarves and Elves in Mayfalls have a strained relationship to the point where they are known to kill one another on sight.
There are said to be hidden treasures within the mountains, specifically the Glittering Depths and The King's Grave. Other notable places are also the Hall of Gods which is hidden within the crevices of this vast landscape.
