Sage is a name given to any child blessed by the gods. The legends spoke of an ancient tradition put forth by Sifor.
In his hubris, he chose to steal the blood of each God and bless one child in Akeroth to create Demigods that would play as an aspect of each god in the realm.
The Old Religion has these children represent a key aspect of each god and thus were named as follows:
- Sifor's Judge
- Ius' Illusion
- Yala's Love
- Mordred's Weapon
During the Rise of Ar-Seid however, these children were sadly hunted and slain by the Jesters of Chaos. This horrific night was thus named 'The Night of the Cursed Knives'. Strung up in the Temple of the Waining Moon, these children were used in a ritual for Ius to claim their power for his own.
Some say the souls of these children possessed great power and protection from even god levels of magic but no evidence of this has been found. There are some small traces of this blood fused into 4 artifacts known as the Blood Arts. These weapons are currently locked away in the depths of The Vortex.
When Ar-Seid was killed and the Gods of the New Religion were destroyed, 5 New Gods were born from Chaos itself and thus 5 new children were chosen to be the new Sages. However, with each cycle, their powers laid dormant and the new prophecy read as follows;
When the first leaf burns
and falls to the ground.
The power of the sages
will now be unbound.
Their magic will be wild
and they will not be hard to find.
But should that night return,
their powers will forever bind.
Take them to the place
where the moon shall rift.
Their souls will fuse together
and grant one final gift.
The new sages have been named as follows;
- Lightning of the Raging Sky
- Tempest of the One Sea
- Flame of the First Forge
- Speaker of the Great Wild
- Hand of the Dark Below
The sages have never been found since the rebirth event and none know how to gain this gift. Many scholars argue what this prophecy means but in Erwick there is said to be a Seer Priest who knows the true meaning.
