The Pit Fights

Virager is a city of gangs, mafias, and organized crime. Overall it’s dangerous, with wealth locked up in the heads of crime syndicates alone. One of the many somewhat illicit activities which take place in this city are the fight rings.   There’s two circuits of them run by different gangs with their own styles, rules, and general feel. All the fights are entirely real combats, although the precise dangers of each vary.   Arthur Callahan was part of the The Setavetra Syndicate  fight rings, known as the Borivetar. Their fights are simple - two men go in, one comes out. No weapons, no magic, just your fists and your force of will. They fought til submission, although death wasn’t uncommon. Those who survive this crucible are called Tar Fighters, somewhat both as insult and as a title of pride.   John Wrestleson was part of UFW, also known as Ultimate Facepunch Wrestling. The name comes from a bet the young master had lost against a rival gang many years ago, and if you make fun of the name within earshot of anyone associated with it you will probably disappear. This was a much more elaborate affair, becoming more spectacles of color and drama than anything else. Involving dramatic personages, costumes, special effects, and elaborate performances that went further than just fighting, UFW became a true spectacle.   Borivetar is true pit fighting; UFW is high stakes wrestling.   Fighters from the two circles will fight in each other’s circuits occasionally, especially when the pride of the gang is at stake. However, these are not honor among thieves ordeals, or approached as brothers under a rebellious flag - these are ruthless, cold, and calculating killers who will not hesitate to do what is necessary to meet their own goals.
