Arkhome
Once one of the smaller cities within the Arkland Empire, Arkhome was the westernmost fortified settlement and was used as a staging area for enforcing the rule of The Empire throughout Arkland and surrounds. The advent of The Shimmering rendered it the largest extant city not just in the Empire but nearly anywhere, though Arkhome was not entirely unscathed. Though not caught in the The Shimmering directly, the new cliff-side outside the city quickly buckled and eroded, leading to nearly half the city subsiding into the ocean below. Today Arkhome is the capital of the surviving Arkland Empire and serves as the administrative center of the region as well as one of the safest and best fed settlements on The Splintered Coast.
Demographics
Predominantly populated by Arklander humans
Government
Feudal Monarchy, Ruled by a King, with dukes who act as governors, dukes will have mayors of individual settlements under them.
Defences
Arkhome boasts two defensive walls and a keep, although the outer walls are beginning to fall into disrepair in many places and the inner wall has been partially cannibalized for other construction projects. Arkhome Keep is the home of the Arkland Empire's royal family, court, and a contingent of household guards.
Industry & Trade
Arkhome is mostly self sufficient, huge swaths of land near to the city itself have been given over to agriculture and industry within the walls for the most part is directed towards the needs of the city itself such as clothing, housing and food.
Infrastructure
Arkhome is built primarily of quarried stone, from quarries now below The Sea of Spires, and is a rare example of pre-Shimmering architecture the likes of which none have the resources to replicate. Even the partially sunken half of the city, Wet Quarter, remains inhabited and boasts a dockyard for the construction and mooring of ships. A precarious and ramshackle network of bridging, stairs and ladders covers the cliff-face and descends to the Wet Quarter.
