Talonford

Talonford is a small but relatively prosperous settlement inland of The Splintered Coast. It is situated on the waterfront of a small lake where the north and central forks of the Talon River meet. Talonford is widely regarded as the most important township for trade in the region as it controls the only intact crossing of the Talon River capable of supporting anything more than a few brave pedestrians, as well as being situated centrally between the capitals of the two largest factions in the region. As such Talonford enjoys the commerce of all comers and does it's best to maintain neutrality and independence.
Prior to The Shimmering Talonford was a small fishing village under the banner of the Arkland Empire, since then however it has attracted a number of refugees and travelers who have settled the area for relatively easy access to food and water. The now township has asserted its independence of both the empire and the fledgling republic to it's south and is a popular location for merchants to offload their wares in order to avoid prolonged trips through the wilderness.

Demographics

Talonford is primarily populated by displaced Humans from throughout Arkland and Iron Hills but has notable minority population of Halflings and Dwarves. The population is general divided divided between permanent settlers and the transient population that come for trade and as a stopover point on longer journeys.

Government

Talonford has no formal government system but is ruled by a Mayor who oversees the town as a whole and settles disputes. The Mayor extracts a tax from traders who ply their wares here but otherwise things are largely laissez-faire.

Defences

The settlement has little defensive infrastructure but benefits from having it's back to the river. A small militia of settlers conducts night watches in order to raise alarm if any serious threats emerge from the wilderness.

Industry & Trade

Talonford supports itself through two primary endeavours, fishing and commerce. Much of the regions farmland was devastated during The Shimmering, Talonford being a relatively isolated fishing village was largely unaffected and has been able to support itself and produce a small surplus, which they trade for other goods. Over the years however Talonfords isolation was broken as more and more adventurers and raiders braved the wilderness, being a prime locale traders eventually began setting up shop and seeking to make use of their docks and boats.

Infrastructure

Talonford possess one of the few docks on the Talon River that is more than a glorified stake in the shore.
