Elf

Basic Information

Anatomy

Taller and more slender than an average human, elves are considered more graceful in physique. Differentiated by their long, pointed ears and their eyes are wide and almond-shaped, and filled with large, vibrantly coloured pupils.   The coloration of elves as a whole varies wildly, and is much more diverse than that of human populations. The elves of the Dragon Era tended towards having colour variations in their hair and skin that mimicked their surroundings, however modern day elves tend to have darker coloured hair and olive skin. Some remote colonies of elves still resemble their ancestors, however not many venture into busy communities.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Elves care a lot about making a good impression. They dress well and think ill of those who don’t. They absolutely hate to look bad, ill prepared or stupid in public. Elves try to surround themselves with beauty and they are trained from a very young age in matters of taste and design.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Food is VERY important. Elves will stop everything for food preparation and eating. Also, conversations tend to revolve around food, especially fine and rare foods and drinks.   Elves are very proud of their rich culture and history. They are keepers of some of the greatest libraries in Alabastria. Elves seek out and want for quality in their possessions, especially in their clothing and their foods they are able to flaunt to guests, looking for value in everything they purchase. The Elven culture is all about speaking. As such, even Elven children are likely to speak confidently and eloquently.   Elves hold strong opinions and will argue passionately. Sometimes they will speak very confidently and forcefully about things that they actually don’t know much about. Elves also hold a lot of local focus, boasting their residence as a main identifier of who they are.   Family comes above everything to elves. Due to their long lived life, many generations will live within the one home. Elves who have established, large families tend to live in large and lavish houses. If their children and grad children venture away from the family home, they will almost always welcome them back to the house. It is very rare that an elf will be disowned or abandoned by a family or family member.   Due to the lavishness and the tenancy to house rare collectables, Elves are paranoid about home security. They invest a lot of their money in enchantments, live in guards and additional security to protect their possessions and their family.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Elves tend to be quite religious. Devout followers of their chosen Goddess, powerful families donate a lot of time and money towards the furtherment of their chosen clergy.
