Duzak - Hell
The souls of the dead, upon departing the bodies, travel from the material plane to Hammistagān . Those whose evil deeds outweigh their good deeds but are not evil enough to go into Duzak, and those whose meritorious deeds outweigh their sins but who are not good enough to enter directly into heaven dwell in the Hammistagān, “the place of the mixed.” it is a frightful place, dark, foul, and grievous with pain. It is here that Maleke Khalagh condemned the souls of the elves that followed her in order to entrap Dendar on this plane.
The second stage of hell, waddom axwān ("The Worst Existence") is the abode of dreadful Daeva; here all is punishment without comfort.
The last stage is Drujasgān ("The Infernal Abyss") the abode of the archdemon; it is the home of all gloom and evil. It is here that Azhi Dahaka was chained within Mount Damavand until her release into the material world.
Collectively these three stages of the underworld constitute Duzak, “The Hells,” which is "north, downward, underneath Alam, extending to the utmost declivity of the sky."
